    摘要: The invention may utilize shaft horsepower for rotating cylinders to move a fluid in an axial direction within the cylinder. The cylinder may comprise a spiral blade on or in its inner surface with a pitch relative to a central axis of the cylinder. The blade's pitch may be variable or uniform with respect to the central axis. In some applications, plural blades may be positioned within the cylinder. The invention is particularly suitable for imparting kinetic energy sufficient to assist with the evacuation of condensate from a paper dryer cylinder with reduced or no blow through steam. The invention also has applications for spinner wheels.

    摘要: A rotary inclined tubular drier for puffing or expanding borax and a process for the production of puffed or expanded borax beads of desired physical characteristics. A rotatable tube is mounted on bearing wheels and surrounded by a fixed, close-fitting, insulated tube having electrical heating elements running lengthwise attached to its inside wall. The rotatable tube is fed continuously with granular borax feedstock by a vibratory feeder from its higher end and the puffed borax is discharged into a discharge chute from the lower end of the tube. A counter current of dry air is maintained by a suction hood at the high end of the tube, and borax is prevented from adhering to the interior of the tube by an adjustable, spring-loaded, internal scraper. The temperature of the drier is controlled by means of a pyrometer incorporated into a scraper support rod on the interior of the tube. Puffed borax beads of particularly desirable characteristics for detergent use are produced from sodium tetraborate pentahydrate by heating the drier to 220.degree.-450.degree. F and adjusting the angle of incline and rate of rotation so as to provide a 45-90 second residence time in the drier for the borax.

    摘要: Apparatus for dehydrating slurries such as water based drilling fluids heavily laden with drill cuttings and other earth solids comprising a rotating drum which is heated by combustion of a fuel air mixture to generate relatively large quantities of combustion products for heating in an enclosed chamber defined by said drum. The slurry to be dehydrated is injected into the interior of the drum or against the outer sidewall thereof for rapid exposure and substantially flash evaporation of the slurry liquids. An outer housing may be constructed around the drum and in one embodiment the drum is arranged inclined to the horizontal with the slurry introduced into the interior of the drum and the combustion chamber formed between the outer housing and the drum. In another embodiment the combustion chamber is formed on the interior of the drum and the evaporation chamber is formed between the drum and the outer housing. The exhaust flues for the evaporation chamber and the combustion chamber are interconnected to provide for induced flow of gases through a stack portion of one of the flues and to dilute the vapor flow stream to minimize the generation of condensation clouds or ice fogs during operations in cold environments.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for drying a material utilizes a rotatable, elongated drum adapted to be coupled with a furnace and means for achieving pneumatic conveying of a material to be dried. The pneumatic conveying medium is controlled so that at least a portion of the material gravitates from the conveying stream until a portion of the water has been removed. The gravitational portion of the material is picked up at the outer surface of the drum by a plurality of vanes which rotate with the drum. Each vane includes one or more cleats which cause the material to effectively ''''dribble'''' from the vanes rather than dropping in clumps as the material reaches a point above the center of the drum. As the material moves from the side of the drum toward the center of the drum it is caught by interference structures disposed axially of the drum in radially spaced relationship with a plurality of the structures being placed longitudinally along the drum. Each structure presents a planar surface portion having opposed side edges. At least one side edge extends at an acute angle relative to a perpendicular bisector of the longitudinal axis of the drum and a sidewall extends upwardly from one side edge to effectively push material gravitating onto the planar surface in a predetermined direction independent of the direction of movement of the conveying medium. This forces the material toward either the inlet or the outlet of the drum and can increase or decrease the retention time of the material in the drum by several fold.
