摘要: A monitoring system signals a low bag supply condition in a bag supply of a self-checkout station before the bag supply is depleted and requires immediate attention to enable use of the self-checkout station. The monitoring system includes a low bag supply sensor that detects the removal a bag from the bagwell of the self-checkout station. A counter then records the detection of a bag removal either by incrementing an accumulated count of removed bags or by decreasing a count of the number of bags in a supply. A signal generator generates a low bag supply signal in response to the count exceeding a low bag supply threshold. The threshold corresponds to the number of remaining bags or the number of bags removed depending upon the direction of the counting. The low bag supply signal may be a visual or audible signal sent to an attendant's station so the attendant may schedule the replenishment of the bag supply at a time when the self-checkout station is not being heavily used. The bag removal sensor may be a scale monitor, a movable arm that engages the bags of the bag supply, or a radiation detector that recognizes fluctuations in radiation levels as bag removals. The monitoring system enables an attendant of multiple self-checkout stations to remain available for customer assistance rather than being diverted by station maintenance.

The system includes at least one stationary cross-direction profile measurement device having at least one radiation source adapted to irradiate the at least one of the material web and the coating on the material web in a plurality of defined and different wavelength ranges, and at least one sensor adapted to measure the intensity of radiation affected by the at least one of the material web and the coating on the material web. The system also includes at least one measurement and/or evaluation electronics system. Each sensor detects only one of the defined different wavelength ranges of the radiation at a specific point in time. The process includes irradiating the at least one of the material web and the coating on the material web with a plurality of defined and different wavelength ranges via at least one radiation source, and measuring an intensity of radiation affected by the at least one of the material web and the coating on the material web with at least one sensor. Only one of the defined different wavelength ranges of the radiation is measured by each sensor at a specific point in time.

摘要: Column for measuring longitudinal dimensions (1) comprising: a supporting frame (2), a carriage (3) capable of moving along a measuring axis (z) along the supporting frame, a cable or belt (40) for moving said carriage along said measuring axis, a counterweight connected to said cable or belt so as to move in opposite direction from the carriage, a guiding surface for restricting the counterweight's movements. A play of 1 millimeter is provided between said counterweight and said guiding surface. This play is sufficient to avoid any contact between said counterweight and any guiding surface when said counterweight is displaced vertically.

摘要: A method and an apparatus for measuring linearity in a reproduction appliance includes an operating carriage bearing a scanning or recording device. The operating carriage is able to be moved in discrete steps in a given direction along a straight line. The operating carriage is successively moved along partial segments of the line. Each of the partial segments is longer than a travel corresponding to one of the steps and is shorter than the entire length of the line. The partial segments each have an exactly defined length defined by an additional carriage moveable along the given direction. The number of steps needed for each partial segment are counted and deviations between values for a travel of the operating carriage resulting from the partial segment and values for the travel of the operating carriage resulting from counting the steps are calculated.

The cable or belt are fastened to the frame. The articulation between the frame and the carriage allows at least one pivoting along a pivoting axis (x) parallel to the plane of said carriage. Advantages: the forces and moments exerted by the cable or belt are not exerted directly onto the carriage. The forces along an axis other than the measuring axis are absorbed by the frame.

摘要: A system and method are provided to measure relatively short distances between one or more moveable objects and with respect to an environment. The transponders may be affixed to other moveable objects and/or may be affixed in position within the environment. The transponders detect the query signal and respond with an acoustic response signal. A synchronized clock system establishes common timing between the transponders and the moveable objects such that the start time at which the acoustic response signal is sent is known. The moveable object detects a receipt time when the acoustic response signal is received. Knowing the start time and the receipt time, a transit time for the acoustic signal can be determined whereby a separation vector may be calculated. The system may be used to determine and transmit a table that contains the relative positions of all moveable objects in the environment.

摘要: A method of locating a fixed terminal of a telecommunication system comprising a constellation of satellites, a plurality of gateway stations and a plurality of fixed terminals includes “coarse”, “intermediate” and “fine” location phases. During the “intermediate” location phase, the terminal calculates at least three hyperboloids and their intersection, assuming a “coarse” estimated position of the terminal is known. Each hyperboloid can be written: Hi,j:dj−di=(tj′−tj).c−(ti′−ti).c where: di is the distance between the terminal and the position pi of the ith active satellite at time ti, dj is the distance between the terminal and the position pj of the jth active satellite at time tj, ti and tj are the ith and jth times of transmission by the ith and jth satellites, respectively, of ith and jth information relating to ti and di and to tj and dj, respectively, ti′ and tj′ are the ith and jth times of reception by the terminal of the ith and jth information, and c is the speed of light.
