Abstract: The present disclosure provides for a sensor system for determining a flow rate of a fluid flow within a fluid channel comprising an elastic segment arranged next to a rigid segment, wherein a first pair of electrodes is provided at the rigid segment and a second pair of electrodes is provided at the elastic segment of the fluid channel. The system further comprises a sensor unit for detecting a capacitance of the first and second electrode pairs, and a processing unit for calculating and monitoring a distance between the electrodes of the second electrode pair based on the detected capacitance of the first electrode pair and the second electrode pair, wherein the first electrode pair is in contact with the rigid segment and the second electrode pair is in contact with the elastic segment. Moreover, a respective method for determining a flow rate of a fluid flow within a fluid channel is provided by the present disclosure, as well as a use of the sensor system.

Abstract: A flowmeter for measuring flow of a conductive liquid includes a structure (20, 220) defining a flow path, electrodes in the flow path and electrodes (34a, 34b, 234a, 234b) exposed within the flow path. An electrical circuit (40, 240) applies a voltage between the electrodes so that an electrical current flows along a conduction path between the electrodes within a liquid flowing in the flow path. Means such as temperature sensors (56, 58, 256, 258) are provided for determining a value representing a temperature rise in the liquid passing through a sensing region of the flow path which encompasses at least a part of the. A monitoring circuit (60, 207) determines a value representing the flow rate based on the value representing the temperature, rise the voltage and the current. The flowmeter may be incorporated in an ohmic heater and elements of the ohmic heater may serve as elements of the flowmeter.

Abstract: In one aspect, the invention provides a sampling apparatus for taking a representative milk sample in a predetermined quantity range from a conveying line in which milk is conveyed at conveying intervals of unknown length. The sampling apparatus comprises a pump, a controller of the pump, and a sample container connecting element connecting member in communication with the pump, wherein the controller is configured based on the predetermined quantity range and a measured quantity indicating a flow rate of the milk conveyed in the conveying line and/or a predetermined quantity indicating a total quantity of milk to be conveyed through the conveying line in a conveying interval, to controlling a pulsed operation of the pump in a conveying interval, wherein the pump conveys a discrete sample subset along a first conveying direction of the pump during the pulsed operation in each sample pulse interval, and wherein the predetermined quantity range is greater than or equal to a total quantity corresponding to a total number of discrete sample subsets in the conveying interval.

Abstract: A system and method for imaging, monitoring, or measuring systems and processes utilizing only data provided from capacitance sensors. The present invention combines the multi-frequency method of both ECVT/AECVT and DCPT to image or measure processes and systems more efficiently and accurately than the methods alone. The present system analyzes capacitance and current phase acquired at multiple frequencies to determine a plurality of properties of single and multiphase systems all at once. The combined use of ECVT and DCPT in multiphase flow can also be extended to measure volume fraction and phase distribution of flows involving greater than three phases by using multiple frequencies for capacitance, current phase, or both.

Abstract: A fluid sensing system includes a sensing element having a positive temperature coefficient of resistance. The system also includes a switch which is switchable between an open position which prevents current from passing and a closed position which permits current to pass. An inductor is connected electrically in series between the switch electric output and the sensing element and a diode is connected electrically in series between the sensing element and the inductor such that an output of the diode is between the switch and the inductor. A hysteretic controller changes the switch from the open position to the closed position when current passing to the sensing element falls to a lower current threshold and changes the switch from the closed position to the open position when current passing to the sensing element rises to an upper current threshold. A voltmeter measures voltage across the sensing element.

Abstract: A flow sensor for use downstream from a particulate media dispensing device is provided having an inlet to receive particulate media and an outlet to dispense the media. The flow sensor has an inlet portion with a funnel to direct particulate media towards a central axis. An axially mounted flow director is located downstream from the funnel to direct the media outwards towards a sensor portion. A capacitive sensor located in the sensor portion surrounds the flow director to create an annular flow path to measure the amount of media that passes through sensor rings in the sensor.
