摘要: A multiturn pulley liquid level sensor device for measuring a liquid level in a well and in a container, comprising a mechanical float which is fastened to a fastening rope and which can slide up and down. The fastening rope is installed on one or more pulleys, and as the float moves up and down, the pulley rotates back and forth. One pulley is mechanically coupled to one digital absolute magnetic rotation encoder device, and the encoder device is used for monitoring the total rotation angle of the pulley in real time. By way of using an algorithm, the total rotation angle of the pulley is converted into a distance from the bottom to calculate the height of a liquid level. A multiwheel encoder has two reading types, i.e., one is an electrical signal reading type, and the other is an optical signal reading type. The electronic output of said encoder may be used as input to an industrial control system, or be sent via communications link to a remote or the internet. The precision of the level measurement is determined by the number of encoder wheels. A mechanical gear or belt can adjust the total number of pulley turns corresponding to the full range of liquid level measurement.

摘要: A method and apparatus for determining the position of a movable object along a magnetostrictive wire having first and second opposed ends. A first electrical excitation pulse is applied to a two-wire circuit including the magnetostrictive wire and propagates along the wire to the position of a movable magnet surrounding the wire. The magnet generates oppositely directed first and second torsional waves in the wire. One torsional wave propagates along the wire to a reflective termination at the second end of the wire and is reflected back toward the magnet where it interacts with the magnetic field of the magnet to induce a return electrical pulse in the two-wire circuit. The position of the magnet along the wire is determined from the time differential between the first and second electrical pulses in the two-wire circuit. In another embodiment, a second magnet is mounted in a fixed position about the wire and generates oppositely directed third and fourth torsional waves in response to the first excitation signal, one of which propagates along the wire toward the first magnet which induces an electromagnetic force in the two-wire circuit. A torsional wave generated by the first movable magnet in response to the excitation signal induces another electromotive force in the two-wire circuit when it propagates to the second magnet.

摘要: A level gauge for a tank of a driven sensor type includes a drum around which is wound a thread on the end of which is suspended a driven level sensor. A reversible servomotor drives the drum with the drum being driveable in reverse directions. The rotation of the drum is recorded and a variation in the force of the thread is detected. The force is directly related to the relative position of the sensor with respect to the level being measured. The detector for detecting the variation in the force in the thread includes an element rotatably mounted about a horizontal axis, with an oscillation of the element being limited by a damping arrangement, with movement of the element enabling the force exerted on the thread to be measured.

摘要: A gauge assembly for measuring the level of a liquid product in a storage tank includes a float member that is constructed and arranged to float on the liquid product in the storage tank, a housing that is constructed and arranged to be mounted on an exterior of the storage tank and a drum that is mounted inside the housing for rotation about an axis. A filament is wound about the drum, and extends through an opening defined in the housing to an attachment with a float member. A spring is provided for biasing the drum in a first rotary direction that will wind the filament onto the drum, whereby the drum will tend to pull the float member toward the housing, keeping the filament taut. A clock-type face is mounted on the housing, and has distance indicia marked there around that is in a base-twelve numbering system to represent feet and inches, rather than hours and minutes. A small hand is mounted to traverse the clock face to represent feet, and is connected to the drum via a gear train. A large hand is mounted to traverse the clock face to represent inches, and is also connected to the gear train. A novel alarm system for indicating when the storage tank is filled to a predetermined maximum level includes an alarm indicator mounted on the clock face to indicate a level of the float member at which the alarm will sound. The alarm indicator is ordinarily connected to the gear train, but may be adjusted with respect to the gear train, whereby a user will be able to manually adjust the level at which the alarm system will be actuated to correspond to a selected level in the storage tank.

摘要: The water control gauge is a cylindrical reservoir for collecting water from rain, sprinklers and other airborne sources. The reservoir has a float measurer to measure the level of water collected in the reservoir. A pulley having a float detects the water level and the turning of the wheel of the pulley operates an electric switch to allow or inhibit the operation of a sprinkler system. A siphon is attached to the reservoir to drain the water once a predetermined level has been reached.

摘要: A liquid level alarm system which activates an alarm when liquid in a container falls below a predetermined level. The system contains an alarm which is located outside of the container. The alarm is electrically connected to an activation device which is contained within a housing. A single-pull switch arm is connected to the activation device and protrudes from the housing. One end of a line is attached to the distal end of the arm. The other end of the line is wound about a spring reel mounted on an axle connected to a float. When the surface of the liquid is between a predetermined upper and lower level, the spring reel maintains the line taut directly below the switch arm. The line is of such length that should the liquid in the container drop below a predetermined level, the float will no longer be supported by the liquid, and the weight of the float will pull the arm down to activate the alarm.

摘要: A total precipitation gauge (10) incorporates a float gauge (16) extending downward to a liquid level (18) in a precipitation storage container. The float gauge (16) is formed with an elongate stillwell (20) extending into the liquid level (18), a float element (22) suspended in the stillwell (20) for rising and falling motion within the stillwell in response to the liquid level, and an elongate code bearing surface (24) coupled to the float (22). A code sensor (34) senses motion of the code bearing surface (34) for generating electrical signals (35) corresponding to motion of the float element and liquid level. The code bearing surface is a flexible coded strip (24) secured at one end to the float element (22) and at the other end to a spring loaded reel (25). The spring force of the spring loaded reel (25) is less than the weight of the float element (22) and ballast (26). The code sensor (34) is an optical interruption sensor with first and second optical sensors (a1,a2) coupled in a quadrature relationship with respect to the coded strip (24) to determine direction of motion of the coded strip (24). The total precipitation gauge may be constructed in the configuration of a removable and replaceable cover (12) for fitting over a precipitation storage container (14). The cover (12) includes a collector passageway (15) for proportionately restricting precipitation passing into the precipitation storage container (14).

摘要: An optical fiber rotary measurement sensor for flow meters and other mechanical devices incorporates a housing having an encoder disc mounted by a drive shaft for driven rotation, the drive shaft being driven by a flow meter mechanism or by any other mechanical device. The encoder forms evenly spaced light absorbing and light reflecting areas at the outer periphery thereof and optical fibers are positioned to project light onto and receive reflected light from the outer periphery of the encoder disc. An opto-electronic signal processor receives reflected light pulses from the reflective surface areas and translates the light pulses into electrical pulses. The electrical pulses are in turn input to electronic display circuitry for providing a digital, analog or other suitable display representative of the rotation of the encoder disc and thus representative of rotary output movement of the flow meter or other mechanical device.
