摘要: A machine for inspecting a container which is being conveyed along a linear path. The machine has spaced left hand and right hand cabinets in front of the linear path with the space therebetween being space in which an operator can stand to be proximate to the linear path. The machine has left hand and right hand inspection stations which include a left-hand assembly located in front of the linear path and a right hand assembly located in front of the linear path. These assemblies are pivotally mounted about vertical axes so that they can be pivoted from a closed position proximate the liner path to a retracted position away from the linear path. At the retracted position an operator can enter the machine and service the inspection stations.

摘要: A population of data points each having three or more parameters associated therewith, such as multi-channel defect data from an optical scanner, are plotted in three dimensions, and groupings of data points are identified. Boundary surfaces are defined in the three-dimensional space for delineating groupings of data points. The different groupings correspond to different data classifications or types. Classification algorithms based on the boundary surfaces are defined. When applied to defect classification, the algorithms can be exported to an optical scanner for runtime classification of defects. An algorithm for identifying a particular grouping of data points can be defined as a Boolean combination of grouping rules from two or more different n-dimensional representations, where n can be either 2 or 3 for each representation.

摘要: A device which is intended to detect and evaluate electromagnetic radiation from an area (2) consists substantially of two measuring chains, which are combined in constructional units (5null,6null), and of a control and evaluation unit (7), wherein the measuring chains are equipped with diametrically opposed measuring heads, whose aperture angles (10) are equal in dimension. Each measuring head forms a boundary surface for the area (2) to be monitored and is provided with a transmitter and a receiver, wherein the boundary surface is intended for coupling radiation into and out of the area (2) respectively. In order to test the functional reliability of the device, a test signal is emitted in a first test procedure via the transmitter of one measuring chain and is reflected in part on the said boundary surface and issues out in part into the area (2). The reflected portion is coupled in by the receiver of the same measuring chain and is transmitted via a line (8) to the control and evaluation unit (7). The portion transmitted into the area (2) is coupled in via the boundary surface of the receiver of the opposite-lying measuring chain and is transmitted via the line (9) likewise to the control and evaluation unit (7). The comparison of the two signal portions, namely the reflected portion and the portion transmitted over the area (2), with reference signals provides statements relating to the contamination of the boundary surfaces, the state of the area (2) and the smooth function of the measuring chains. Each testing cycle consists of a number of test procedures which corresponds to the number of measuring heads. In contrast to the prior art, it is possible to achieve a substantially higher degree of reliability in the test statement by reason of the fact that the state of the area (2), the contamination of the boundary surfaces and the internal functional sequences of the measuring chains are tested simultaneously.

摘要: A dissolution system provides remote flow cells integrated into a manifold device. The manifold device communicates with liquid input and output lines associated with each flow cell, as well as fiber-optic input and output lines associated with each flow cell. Liquid samples are respectively drawn from dissolution vessels, optically-related measurements are taken, and the samples are thereafter returned their respective vessels. The manifold device can be adapted to receive probe-type instruments that incorporate the fiber-optics, wherein each probe-type instrument is associated with each flow cell. Alternatively, each corresponding pair of fiber-optic input and output lines are disposed in opposing, optically-aligned relation and probe-type instruments are not used. The gap between the ends of the opposing fiber-optic lines provides a light path across the corresponding flow cell. Calibration procedures using blank and/or standard media are performed using the same flow cells, with provisions made for bypassing the vessels in which the samples to be analyzed are held.
