Abstract: A blood sample collection and/or storage device includes a two-piece housing that encompasses a port at which a fingertip blood sample is collected. Abstract: A fluid control device includes an inlet configured to be placed directly or indirectly in fluid communication with a bodily fluid source and an outlet configured to be placed in fluid communication with a fluid collection device. The fluid control device has a first state in which a negative pressure differential produced from an external source such as the fluid collection device is applied to the fluid control device to draw an initial volume of bodily fluid from the bodily fluid source, through the inlet, and into a sequestration portion of the fluid control device. The fluid control device has a second state in which (1) the sequestration portion sequesters the initial volume, and (2) the negative pressure differential draws a subsequent volume of bodily fluid, being substantially free of contaminants, from the bodily fluid source, through the fluid control device, and into the fluid collection device.

Abstract: A collection system configured to maintain the integrity of a bodily fluid sample has a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, and an inner surface defining a fluid flow path therethrough. The distal end portion is configured to be placed in fluid communication with a patient. The proximal end portion is configured to be placed in fluid communication with a fluid reservoir. The fluid flow path defined by the inner surface is associated with at least one flow characteristic configured to limit a stress within the flow of the bodily fluid between the distal end portion and the proximal end portion.

The PCR testing system may be configured for use with a disposable sample collection device that includes a swab configured for collecting a biological sample from a patient; and a sample container configured to receive the swab and separate a bulk quantity of the biological sample from the swab for containment in a bulk collection chamber, which is located with the sample container, wherein the sample container is configured to meter a selected volume of the biological sample into a PCR sample tube, which contains a lyophilized master mix, releasably attachable to the sample container.

Abstract: A displacement device for displacing a displacement volume is disclosed. The device has a first fluid space and a second fluid space. The second piston is actuated in dependence on the first piston that is actuated by the actuation volume. The actuation volume is different from the displacement volume, and a pipetting system has a displacement device and a method of displacing a displacement volume.

Abstract: A whole blood filtration device is provided with a filter membrane separating a feeding volume and a clean side of the filter membrane from each other. The feeding volume communicates with a first feeding side opening and with a second feeding side opening. The filter membrane has pores with a pore size that ensures permeability of the filter membrane to blood plasma/serum and that retains blood cells. The first feeding side opening can be coupled to a first blood pump for feeding blood from the first feeding side opening into the feeding volume so that blood plasma/serum permeates the filter membrane and blood cells, retained by the filter membrane, exit from the feeding volume through the second feeding side opening.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a cap assembly configured to be attached to a container, the cap assembly comprising: a top cap which includes a rest position and a pressable position; a piston rod connected to the top cap, the piston rod being connected to a piston at the bottom to actuate the piston to move vertically, the piston rod further comprising an inclined upper guiding surface; a deformable element bearing at the top end against the upper guiding surface of the piston rod so that the deformable element is movable along the upper guiding surface; a support which is vertically movable to move the top cap from the rest position to the pressable position, the support including an inclined lower guiding surface against which the bottom end of the deformable element is supported so that the deformable element is movable along the lower guiding surface; when the top cap is pressed, the piston rod moves downwards and actuates the piston to move downwards to dispense material from a dispensing chamber while forcing the deformable element to deform from an initial state and to move along the upper guiding surface and the lower guiding surface; and when the top cap is released, the deformable element returns to the initial state.
