Abstract: A system includes a fluid transfer device and a lateral flow assay device. The fluid transfer device has an inlet fluidically coupleable to a bodily fluid source, an outlet fluidically coupleable to a sample reservoir, and a sequestration chamber configured to receive an initial volume of bodily fluid. The fluid transfer device can be transitioned between (1) a first state with the sequestration chamber in fluid communication with the inlet to receive the initial volume, (2) a second state with the outlet in fluid communication with the inlet to receive a subsequent flow of bodily fluid, and (3) a third state with the lateral flow assay device in fluid communication with the sequestration chamber to receive a portion of the initial volume of bodily fluid. The lateral flow assay device configured to provide an indication associated with a presence of a target analyte in the bodily fluid.

Abstract: Instrument free “plasticware” is provided that enables multi-step molecular reactions in a diagnostics context. A hollow plunger that is movable within a surrounding tube defines a reaction chamber inside the plunger. By moving the plunger to different positions in the tube, a sample can be collected, then the sample can be washed, and finally the reaction chamber can be sealed to perform diagnostic reactions on the sample. The juxtaposition of large sample collection/washing volume with small reaction volume allows one to conduct a wide range of diagnostic assays including a LAMP (Loop mediated isothermal amplification) based saliva test in a small, portable self-contained device. Applications include Molecular diagnostics for health applications (including COVID19 test), Environmental Monitoring, Disease surveillance, and Veterinary health.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides better aspiration and dispensing of liquids by an innovative mechanism by (i) offsetting the diameter of a bottom tube with a narrower and tapered top piston when the two are moved together in the same chamber to give extremely fine resolution, thereby eliminating the need for any skinny or filamentous piston, (ii) using thick walled compliant O-rings to seal against the different diameters of the tapered piston to given an additional order of magnitude range of resolution, (iii) letting the bottom tube move in the chamber alone without offset to give high flow, and (iv) an at-the-ready space between the tube and piston in the chamber to permit contact-free blowoff, including viscous samples.

Abstract: An aspiration apparatus adapted to allow aspiration verification of a liquid such as of a biological liquid or reagent liquid, especially at low aspiration volumes (e.g., less than 25 μL). The apparatus includes a pump operable at an operating frequency, the pump optionally including a pumping chamber, a probe having a probe interior, a main supply line containing a backing liquid coupled to and extending from the pump and including the probe interior, a striction coupled to the main supply line, or the pump chamber, if present, and a reservoir fluidly coupled to the striction, wherein the striction is sized to minimize backing liquid flow through the striction at one or more disturbance frequencies above the operating frequency. Systems and methods for carrying out the liquid aspiration are provided, as are other aspects.

The middle chamber has an outer surface including a plurality of pores, which are configured to retain certain components from biological fluid extracted by the outer body. A method of use includes placing a binding syringe into a patient or container, actuating the binding syringe to extract biological fluid, fluid flowing through a flowpath, and binding components of the biological fluid to be removed to the binding syringe.
