    摘要: A sampling device provides accurately repeatable samples for determination of consistency. A chamber is placed into the process line, and a piston in the chamber can be moved rearwardly to withdraw a quantity of process into the chamber. A sample container in communication with the chamber is also filled. The piston is moved forwardly to urge the process back into the process line, while the sample container remains full of process. The sample container has a known volume, and the piston in its forward position closes the sample container so the sample therein is limited to the known volume. The sample is transferred to a filter, and clean water assures that all solids are transferred to the filter.

    摘要: A procedure and tools for quantifying surface cleanliness are described. Cleanliness of a target surface is quantified by wiping a prescribed area of the surface with a flexible, bright white cloth swatch, preferably mounted on a special tool. The cloth picks up a substantial amount of any particulate surface contamination. The amount of contamination is determined by measuring the reflectivity loss of the cloth before and after wiping on the contaminated system and comparing that loss to a previous calibration with similar contamination. In the alternative, a visual comparison of the contaminated cloth to a contamination key provides an indication of the surface cleanliness.

    摘要: The invention provides a liquid sampling device and method using a chamber in which a vacuum is created to draw a liquid sample through a sample intake tube assembly into a sample receptacle placed in the chamber. The vacuum is created by a vacuum pump attached to an entry port in the chamber. The sample intake tube assembly is inserted through a second entry port in the chamber. One end of the sample intake tube assembly is placed in the open sample receptacle located in the chamber, while the other end is placed in the sample site. The independence of the sample intake tube assembly and the vacuum pump stem promotes sample purity. The sample intake tube assembly has a flexible collar which is inserted into and creates a seal with the entry port of the chamber. After a sample is taken and the vacuum pump disengaged, the sample intake tube assembly and its collar may be removed and replaced by a new tube assembly and collar, so minimizing the risk of microbial and chemical cross-contamination of samples by repeated use of the same intake tube assembly.

    摘要: Instruments and processes according to the invention provide for the preparation of a fluid sample that has a substantially known concentration of a select particulate matter. In one aspect, the invention is understood as laboratory instruments for sample preparation. These instruments can include a filter that is submersible within a fluid suspension of particulate matter. To collect particulate matter from the fluid suspension, the instruments can cause a fluid flow that pulls fluid across the filter to trap particulate matter against one surface of the filter. The instruments can then remove the filter from the fluid suspension and dispose the filter above a collection vessel such that the side of the filter that is carrying particulate matter is positioned above the opening of the collection vessel. The laboratory instruments can then send a collection fluid through the filter in a direction opposite to the original fluid flow, thereby washing the particulate matter off the filter and into the collection vessel. The laboratory instruments according to the invention can provide samples having a known concentration by passing a known volume of collection fluid through the filter, thereby trapping the collected particulate matter within a known volume of collection fluid.

    摘要: A fluid transfer device includes a cylinder and a displacement rod. The cylinder is fabricated rigid enough to minimize distortion of volume yet compliant enough to create a seal between itself and the surface of the displacement rod. The cylinder is constructed with a bore hole through its central portion running from end to end. The diameter of the bore hole is larger than the diameter of the displacement rod. The displacement rod is constructed of a rigid material. At least one end of the cylinder has a diameter reduced so the diameter of the bore hole and the diameter of the displacement rod are substantially the same to form a seal with each other. As the displacement rod is withdrawn from the bore hole, a sample is drawn into the bore hole. The volume of the sample drawn into the bore hole is a function of the volume of the displacement rod withdrawn from the bore hole. A cross hole, for venting undesired fluid such as gas bubbles or previous sample(s), is located on the displacement rod. The cross hole is connected to a passageway through the inside of the displacement rod leading to an opening on its surface which is outside of the cylinder.
