摘要: The present invention relates to a device for generating light signals, in particular traffic lights. The device according to the invention contains a housing with at least one opening, which is closed by a plate, the absorption of which can be controlled electrically, there being located in the interior of the housing behind the opening a diffuser element, which reflects incident light through the plate. Preferred switched states of the plate are either black (absorption over the entire spectral region of visible light) and colored transparent (slight absorption in specific spectral regions) or transparent (no absorption over the entire spectral region of visible light). The device according to the invention is used to generate light signals by virtue of the fact that the ambient light strikes the plate and, depending on switched state, is absorbed entirely, partially or not at all by the plate. The light fraction transmitted through the plate is reflected by the diffuser plate located behind the plate and transmitted a second time through the plate, and can then be perceived from outside.

摘要: A collapsible light diffusing device includes a collapsible housing having a folded and an unfolded condition. The housing in the unfolded condition defines a first aperture and a second aperture, the second aperture being larger than the first aperture. The housing is adapted to be mounted to a light source such that the first aperture is nearer to the light source than the second aperture. The device further includes a flexible light diffusing member adapted to cover the second aperture when the housing is in the unfolded condition. The housing includes a plurality of substantially rigid panels of heat resistant material, hinged together to enable the housing to be manipulated between the folded and unfolded conditions.

摘要: The present invention is a light directing construction for use in a display apparatus. The light directing construction includes a light directing film that has a prismatic structure having two sides, where one side includes saw tooth formations having tilted surfaces, and a metal coating on the side of the prismatic substrate having the saw-tooth formations. A corrosion-resistant feature is provided on the light directing construction to minimize the effects of corrosion experienced in salt atmospheres. In a first embodiment of the invention, the light directing construction includes an intermediate layer positioned between the light directing film and the metal coating. In a second embodiment of the invention, a peripheral polymeric coating is provided on the light directing constriction. This peripheral coating can be formed with a laser.

The charge controlled mirror display is coupled to the communications bus. The charge controlled mirror display includes an array of charge controlled mirrors. At least some of the charge controlled mirrors have a textured surface configured to cause reflective diffusion of light from the light source. The charge controlled mirrors have reflectance that is selectively controlled according to signals communicated along the communications bus.

Another optical film has a transparent film having an average in-plane retardation of not larger than 30 nm, an adhesive layer provided on one surface of the transparent film, the adhesive layer having a refractive index different by 0.12 or less from that of a layer of the one surface of the transparent film, and the repetitive prismatic structure provided on the other surface of the transparent film. Still another optical film has a transparent film having a refractive index of not lower than 1.49, a transparent adhesive layer provided on one surface of the transparent film, the transparent adhesive means having a refractive index of not lower than 1.49, and the repetitive prismatic structure provided on the other surface of the transparent film.

摘要: An object of the invention is to provide a sidelight type backlighting apparatus having high brightness, which is yet reduced in uneven brightness, and to provide a reflector substrate having a surface profile necessary for obtaining such apparatus and a reflector having high brightness and long durability in which the reflector substrate is implemented. A buffer against strain is formed by providing space by protrusions or the like between a light guiding plate of a planar light source apparatus and a reflecting surface of a reflection sheet provided on one main surface of the light guiding plate. Further, a base layer, a metallic layer mainly containing silver, and a light transmitting oxide layer are laminated on the substrate in this order to form a reflection layer.
