An electrical control system includes multiple frames of reference in the error path of a controller. In each such frame, a particular chosen component of the error vector appears as a constant vector and is passed through a pure integrator thus acquiring infinite gain. In the steady state, the net error vector can then be forced to have zero content at each of the targeted frequencies (as set by the rotational velocity of the frames of reference). Both parallel and series configuration of the controller are provided, as well as the control methods used by the controllers.

The time constant of an electronic integrator is made variable by inserting a pulse controlled FET switch in series with the input resistance. This integrator is used to generate the integral and derivative terms in an electronic process controller so that the time-constants of those terms may be varied remotely by a series of pulses or by a voltage that controls a pulse generator. An amplifier whose gain is made variable by alternately shorting the gain to zero with a switch controlled by a series of pulses is used to provide adjustable gain of the proportional band circuit in the controller. In use, the disclosed Automatic Control Device virtually eliminates "hunting", and it can also accomodate and control extreme and sudden changes ("bumping") in either the process variable or the set point without damage to the Automatic Process Control Device or its operation.
