摘要: An apparatus and method for teaching mathematical expressions includes a plurality of four-sided members that represent the variables of factors of a mathematical expression. Each four-sided member has a different area representing a different variable in the mathematical expression. The apparatus enables a math student to visualize the rules that apply to mathematical expressions. The four-sided members include a first side having a first color and a second side having a second color, different from the first color, wherein the first side represents a positive number, and the second side represents a negative number. Alternatively, the sign may be distinguished by varying surface roughness of the members. The four-sided members can be used for teaching by illustration simple multiplication and division, multiplication, division and factorization of polynomials, linear equations including inequations and absolute value, and systems of linear equations.

摘要: The invention provides a finger puppet comprising a finger stall (30) formed of a resilient material and having a generally tubular configuration with a base area (31) extending generally parallel to the axis of the finger stall on the outer surface thereof. A plurality of inter-changeable human or animal facial head parts (33 to 37), each comprising a portion adapted to be secured to said base area by mutually engaging spigot and bore arrangements is also provided whereby each of said head parts is additionally spatially located on said base area by abutment with a portion of an adjacent head part. The arrangement allows the finger stall to be articulated to provide animation of the features.

摘要: A diagnostic test method and associated apparatus which assesses different categories of motivational skills in an individual in order to diagnose motivational deficiencies that limit a person's performance in a given setting. The motivational strengths and weakness of individuals or groups are summarized as a Motivational Skills Profile in order to select the appropriate treatment program or procedure. A teaching aid consisting of a visual representation associates each category of diagnosed skill deficiency with research areas in which treatments for remediating that deficiency can be found. This teaching aid also adds to the effectiveness and efficiency of any motivational training program by highlighting specific motivational skill goals and by providing feedback on current skill levels.

摘要: A teaching aid is provided which is particularly useful in the teaching of children suffering from learning disabilities of the type which are evidenced by the fact that the child can not read because of left to right sequencing problems and has an aversion to graphical representation. The subject teaching aid includes a multiplicity of block-like members which when arranged in end-toend relation are operable to form a segmented inclined plane. Each of the block-like members is of substantially the same width and length but is of differing height. More particularly, the top wall of each of the block-like members is sloped so that the height of the block-like member measured at the corner formed by the intersection of one edge of the top wall and one of the end walls of the block-like member is less than the height of the same block-like member measured at the corner formed by the intersection of the other edge of the top wall and the other end wall thereof. The angle of inclination of the top wall is the same for all of the multiplicity of block-like members so that a surface having a continuous slope is produced when the multiplicity of block-like members are arranged with their end walls in abutting relation in order of increased height. The teaching aid also includes a reading script which is designed to be utilized with the multiplicity of block-like members. More particularly, with the multiplicity of block-like members in disarray before the child, the latter is told a story in which he is directed to arrange the multiplicity of block-like members in a predetermined manner. Thus, by utilizing these multiplicity of block-like members, the child is taught to arrange them in ascending or descending order, and therethrough the concept of left to right sequencing.

摘要: Matrix of discrete visual representations are presented either as individual cards to be arranged in some pattern, or in a predetermined, fixed arrangement with respect to one another. In the first matrix, a subject arranges a base group of cards presented to him, these cards bearing representations which is a group display examples of the same concept between at least next adjacent cards and which can be arranged in a logical sequence, and then verbalizes what that arrangement means. Cards in succeeding additional groups presented are not logically related to one another as a group, however, certain cards in each additional group have a logical connection to certain cards making up a preceding group. The subject can substitute cards logically connected into the predetermined pattern, making up a new story about what the new pattern means. The process continues until the last group of cards from the matrix has been presented to the subject, and these have been arranged by the subject into a new pattern, and a story told. With the fixed matrix, a subject throws coded dice, determining discrete visual representations in the fixed matrix. Thus, a random pattern exists. As before, the subject verbalizes about what that arrangement means. The matrices can be used in playing a game involving telling a story within a certain time. The type of story to be told can be determined by random selection from a predetermined listing. The story can be scored for the accumulation of points toward winning.

摘要: An educational model for teaching language grammar, parts of speech, syntax, and sentence structure is disclosed in which thirty (30) individual elements of speech are identified and grouped into ten (10) distinct sets which are embodied in physical models. Each model represents a word or group of words, referred to as "elements," which form the logical building blocks of the language. Certain elements are actually hybrid elements in that they reflect the unique properties and derivations of verbals, phrases and clauses. The models interengage with one another without fully interlocking, in order to designate, simultaneously, each element's part of speech and part of sentence within the sentence. Each model is generic in that it does not impose case or agreement of person and number or predetermined word choices on the word or group of words it designates. Case is determined only by the position of each element as it interengages with other elements. Symbols are used to designate the function of each element; color is used to designate the element's set, and shape is used to designate sentence part and part of speech. The user interengages each element with other elements to form a phrase, clause, or sentence as an alternative to conventional sentence diagramming. The models may be embodied in print, plastic, video, or software.
