Abstract: A method for obtaining 225AC from 225Ra having the steps of assembling a column having an inorganic stationary phase; priming the column to immobilize 226Ra 225Ra and natural decay products therefrom; immobilizing the 226Ra, 225Ra, 224Ra, and natural decay products therefrom onto a stationary phase within the column; and eluting the column containing the 225Ra with an aqueous sulfate solution to obtain a milking effluent that contains 225AC. Also provided is a method for obtaining pure 225AC from its isotope parents, the method comprising assembling a column having a stationary phase comprising an inorganic material; priming the column with the isotope parents to immobilize 225Ac, and natural decay products of 225AC; immobilizing the 225Ac, and natural decay products therefrom onto the stationary phase within the column 226Ra, 225Ra, 224Ra; and eluting the column containing the 225AC to obtain an effluent that contains the isotope parents.

Abstract: Methods of synthesizing nanoparticles of an isotope using a laser beam are described herein. The methods include generating the laser beam, directing the laser beam to the target to convert the target into a plasma state, and bombarding the target in the plasma state with the laser beam to maintain the target in the plasma state and synthesize the nanoparticles of the isotope. During bombarding the target in the plasma state with the laser beam, the laser beam is configured to have a pulse frequency and peak laser intensity that accelerates electrons in the plasma state and maintains the plasma state at a temperature high enough to provide for the synthesis of the nanoparticles of the isotope. Apparatuses for synthesizing nanoparticles of an isotope using a laser beam are also described herein.

Abstract: In order to prevent the global warming by taking hydrogen out of gases such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide, etc., a reactor 70 made of stainless steel is heated, at a temperature above 500° C., at a bottom portion where alkaline metal such as Li, Na, Ka, etc. is accommodated to be melted so that fine particles fly out to a plasma space 74 formed above the alkaline metal and having a function to amplify energy by the heat-oscillation of metal, and the first electromagnetic waves are emitted from a reactor wall to generate the second electromagnetic waves having an amplified energy in the plasma space, and further the second electromagnetic waves separate protons of nitrogen gas, carbon dioxide gas, etc. to produce hydrogen.

Abstract: An object of the invention is to efficiently produce a radionuclide. While a fluid containing a raw material is circulated along a circulation passage, a first radionuclide is generated in the fluid from the raw material by irradiating the fluid with radiation rays midway along the circulation passage. Further, while the fluid is circulated along the circulation passage, a substance containing at least a part of the first radionuclide and a second radionuclide generated from the first radionuclide is taken out from the fluid, and the fluid containing the remaining raw material is returned to the circulation passage again for circulation.

Abstract: Surrogate materials are in the form of solid particles that include surrogate isotopes, namely, short-lived isotopes selected and formed to serve as surrogates for the radioactive materials of a nuclear fallout without including isotopes that are, or that decay to, biologically or environmentally deleterious and persistent isotopes. The surrogate material may be formed using high-purity reactant material and irradiation and separation techniques that enable tailoring of the isotopes and ratios thereof included in the surrogate material, and the surrogate material may be dispersed, e.g., in a training environment, in solid form.

Abstract: A target unit for producing Cu67 radioisotope is described herein, and comprises a cage body releasably coupled to a screw-on cap; and a ceramic capsule containing a solid Zn68 target ingot and having one open end and one closed end and defining an interior chamber for the target ingot. The ceramic capsule is releasably contained between the cage body and the screw-on cap with a lid disposed on the open end of the capsule and a washer positioned between the lid and the screw-on cap. The screw-on cap and the washer provide a water-tight seal between the lid and the capsule. The interior of the capsule is in intimate physical contact with the target ingot; and the Zn68 of the target ingot is free of traces of residual oxygen that interfere with contact of the Zn68 to the capsule.

Abstract: The present invention provides a target unit and a sublimation apparatus for use in a method for producing Cu67 radioisotope suitable for use in medical applications. The method comprises irradiating a metallic zinc-68 (Zn68) target within a sealed ceramic capsule with a high energy gamma ray beam. After irradiation, the Cu67 is isolated from the Zn68 by any suitable method (e.g. chemical and or physical separation). In a preferred embodiment, the Cu67 is isolated by sublimation of the zinc in a ceramic sublimation tube to afford a copper residue containing Cu67. The Cu67 can be further purified by chemical means.
