A system (e.g., a digital-to-analog converter (DAC)) includes a digital section and an analog section. The digital section has a driver portion that generates drive signals based on received respective digital input signals. The drive signals are received at respective switches in the analog section. The driver portion includes logic gates that are used to generate the drive signals, such that a rise and fall time of complementary pairs of drive signals are substantially equal. The driver portion can optionally include an acceleration system to accelerate the rise and fall times of the drive signals. The switches generate respective analog signals from the drive signals.

A gamma correction apparatus for a liquid crystal display comprises a reference voltage generating circuit and a gamma correction circuit. The reference voltage generating circuit outputs a plurality of reference voltages according to the pixel data. The gamma correction circuit gamma-corrects the pixel data according to the reference voltages. The feature of the invention resides in that the reference voltage generating circuit outputs the corresponding reference voltages to gamma-correct the pixel data according to the positions of the pixels corresponding to the pixel data in the LCD monitor and the display colors of the pixels.

Low distortion current switches for high speed current steering digital-to-analog converters. The current switches use a compensation method for improving the spurious peformance of a CMOS current steering DAC for high output frequencies caused by the capacitance of the common node of the switch transistors. For this purpose, a replica switch is provided, with the voltage change on the common node of the replica switch being used to provide a corresponding charge to the common node of the main switch in an amount equal to the charge needed to change the voltage on the common node of the main switch by the same amount as the voltage change on the common node of the replica switch. Multiple embodiments are disclosed.

A method is used for reducing spikes in a digital-to-analog converter (DAC), which includes a plurality of digit circuits for transforming a digital voltage signal into an analog voltage signal. The method includes receiving the digital voltage signal, setting the digit circuit corresponding to a predetermined bit of the digital voltage signal closest to an output module, and outputting an analog voltage signal corresponding to the digital voltage signal, wherein the predetermined bit of the digital voltage signal is the bit with least signal variation among the bits of the digital voltage signal.

An apparatus converts a digital value including “a” bits into an analog signal and has 2b D/A converters. Here, b is an integer number that is greater than 0. Each of the D/A converters is designed to convert a digital value having “a−b” bits. The digital value that is supplied (for i=1 . . . 2b) to the ith D/A converter for the purpose of D/A conversion corresponds to the “a−b” most significant bits in the sum of the digital value that will be converted by the apparatus and to i−1. The output signal for the apparatus is the mean value for the output signals from the D/A converters. Such an apparatus can be produced such that it can be accommodated easily and efficiently on a semiconductor chip and, irrespective of the details of protocol implementation, permits a completely linear conversion of the digital value being converted into an analog signal.

A dual-stage DAC system is provided that includes a coarse resistor network having a first portion and a second portion that provide a plurality of segment voltages. The coarse resistor network is coupled to a fine resistor network that provides a plurality of tap output voltages corresponding to a selected segment voltage. The output of the fine resistor network can be provided to an amplifier that sets a reference voltage in addition to buffering the output of the fine resistor network. A predetermined current is coupled to one of the first portion and the second portion of the coarse resistor network based on the segment voltage selected.

Methods and apparatuses for spectrally shaping mismatch errors in a multi-bit digital to analog converter (DAC). In an embodiment, the multi-bit DAC is constructed from K separate multi-element sub-DACs, where K and the number of elements in each sub-DAC are each preferably greater than two. A received digital input code is split into a set of K sub-codes corresponding to the digital input code. The set of K sub-codes can have one of at least N different sub-code orders that specify an order of each of the K sub-codes with respect to one another, where N>2. A sum of the K sub-codes equals the digital input code. One of the at least N different sub-code orders is selected using a shuffling algorithm. Then, each sub-code in the set of K sub-codes is output in accordance with the selected sub-code order.
