    摘要: An optical transmission system or its constituent repeater disposed optically between two terminals. The system includes at least two parallel optical paths between a first node and the repeater (one optical path being used as a backup for another), and another at least two parallel optical paths between a second node and the repeater (again, one optical path being used as a backup for another). The first nodes may, but need not, be terminals, but could also be repeaters, or other optical elements. For a signal traveling from the first terminal to the second terminal, the optical switching mechanism detects which of the at least two parallel optical paths an optical signal is being received from the first node, and channels the optical signal to at least one of the parallel optical paths leading from the repeater to the second node.

The R/GR type fire alarm control panel receives the alarm signals from one of the optical repeaters and transmits the control signals to one of the optical repeaters.

    摘要: Dynamic optical wavebands are disclosed that allow a plurality of user streams having a common destination node to be positioned in a substantially adjacent non-overlapping manner on a spectrum for treatment as a routable entity. Each waveband has an associated center wavelength and spectral extent. The plurality of user streams can optionally be encrypted using a corresponding cipher. Wavebands that are received by a network node are filtered so that individual wavebands can be isolated, if necessary. For example, individual wavebands can be switched to an appropriate output node for forwarding in the optical network. In addition, the center wavelength and spectral extent of a waveband can be converted, if necessary, to position the waveband substantially spectrally adjacent to another waveband sharing a common path portion. In this manner, the substantially spectrally adjacent wavebands can be treated as an aggregated waveband for the common portion of a path. The disclosed wavebands can be processed only as an optical signal. The center wavelength, spectral extent and routing information associated with each waveband can optionally be processed as out-of-band signals.

    摘要: An improved photonic switch having optical amplification is described. Signals are amplified before they are switched, after they are switched, or both before and after they are switched. The optical amplification compensates for fixed losses within the switch and transmission system, or provides output power equalization. The photonic switching system includes a demultiplexer for dividing incoming light into different wavelengths or wavebands. The different signals are then supplied to optical amplifiers. The amplifiers amplify the optical signals before supplying them to the optical switch core. Once in the optical switch core, the signals are switched as desired to specified output nodes, then multiplexed back together to provide an output signal from the photonic switching system. In some systems amplification is further provided on the output side. The system also provides a control system by which the optical power of the signals is sensed and controllably amplified to achieve desired results, for example, fixed loss compensation, output power equalization, or other desired levels.

    摘要: Systems and methods for repeating optical signals. A scalable transceiver based repeater includes one or more transceivers. Each transceiver includes an optical receiver that receives a channel of an optical signal. The optical transmitter in each transceiver transmits the channel received by the associated optical receiver. A switch is used to redirect the channels, which may be in an electrical form at the switch, from the optical receivers back to the optical transmitters. The switch can also be used to add/drop the channels from the repeater. The optical transmitter and/or the optical receiver of each transceiver may also include a clock/data recovery circuit (CDR). The repeater is scalable because transceivers can be added/replaced as needed. A demultiplexor can separate an optical signal into the channels that are received by the optical receivers. A multiplexor combines the channels generated by the optical transmitters.
