Abstract: Embodiments herein describe a host that polls a network adapter to receive data from a network. That is, the host/CPU/application thread polls the network adapter (e.g., the network card, NIC, or SmartNIC) to determine whether a packet has been received. If so, the host informs the network adapter to store the packet (or a portion of the packet) in a CPU register. If the requested data has not yet been received by the network adapter from the network, the network adapter can delay the responding to the request to provide extra time for the adapter to receive the data from the network.

Abstract: A network device transmits, to a server, information of an event that has occurred in the network device, compares, with each of a first threshold and a second threshold greater than the first threshold, a metric that corresponds to a state of the network device pertaining to the event, and switches a method of communicating with the server based on the comparison. When the metric exceeds the first threshold while communicating with the server in a polling method with first communication intervals and is smaller than the second threshold, the method of communicating with the server switches to a polling method with second communication intervals that are shorter than the first communication intervals, and when the metric exceeds the second threshold while communicating with the server in the polling method with the second communication intervals, the method of communicating switches with the server to a push method.

Abstract: A station (STA), when operating as a responding STA (RSTA) for time-synchronization of a plurality of initiating STAs (ISTAs) in a time-synchronized network (TSN), may determine, during a negotiation phase, whether each of the ISTAs that intend to participate in one or more measurement phases are requesting to be polled or are requesting not to be polled. For the ISTAs that are requesting to be polled, the RSTA may perform a polling phase prior to performing each of the one or more measurement phases. For the ISTAs that are requesting not to be polled, the RSTA may refrain from performing a polling phase prior to performing each of the one or more measurement phases. The RSTA can directly trigger the measurement phase for ISTAs that are requesting not to be polled. By grouping ISTAs into polling and non-polling groups, efficiency improvements are achieved.

Abstract: Techniques for using traceroute with tunnels and cloud-based systems for determining measures of network performance are presented. Systems and methods include requesting a trace to a destination with a signature inserted into a trace packet; receiving a response to the trace packet; when the response does not include tunnel info, providing details in the response to a service where the details include parameters associated with a service path between the client and the destination; and, when the response includes tunnel info, segmenting the service path into a plurality of legs, causing a trace for each of the plurality of legs, and aggregating details for each of the plurality of legs based on the causing.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device obtains performance data regarding failures of a tunnel in a network. The device generates a failure profile for the tunnel by applying machine learning to the performance data regarding the failures of the tunnel. The device determines, based on the failure profile for the tunnel, whether the tunnel exhibits failure flapping behavior. The device adjusts one or more Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) probing timers used to detect failures of the tunnel, based on the determination as to whether the tunnel exhibits failure flapping behavior.

After detecting a period of inactivity in the IP connection, keep-alive messages are sent via the IP connection at predetermined intervals, which are varied. The method comprises monitoring the lengths of several periods of inactivity at which the mobile radio network disconnects the IP connection.

Abstract: Determining a bit rate at which to deliver a packet stream over a network link. An origin device transmits over the network link unsolicited data packets to a destination device while contemporaneously transmitting over the network link a first packet stream encoded at an initial bit rate to the destination device. The origin device may be, but need not be, a content delivery network (CDN) edge node and the destination device may be, but need not be, a cable modem (CM). The origin device determines whether the network link supports delivering a second packet stream in lieu of the first packet stream encoded at a higher bit rate based, at least in part, on an amount of retransmission requests the origin device receives for packets in the first packet stream from the destination device.
