Abstract: A composition for detoxifying insect pollinators from one or more organophosphate pesticides, the composition containing microparticles comprising: (i) a phosphotriesterase; (ii) nanoparticles; and (iii) a surface active agent. Also disclosed herein is an aqueous suspension comprising the above-described detoxifying microparticles in an external aqueous medium, which may also contain an insect pollinator attractant. Also described herein is a method for detoxifying insect pollinators of one or more organophosphate pesticides, the method comprising placing the detoxifying aqueous suspension in a location accessible to the insect pollinators to permit the insect pollinators to ingest the detoxifying aqueous suspension, wherein the detoxifying aqueous suspension comprises microparticles, as described above, suspended in an external aqueous medium, typically also including an insect pollinator attractant in the external aqueous medium.

Abstract: Effective delivery of an insecticide to a growing plant can sometimes be problematic. Topical delivery of an insecticide at the post-emergence stage of growth can sometimes be ineffective. It can also be difficult to deliver an insecticide to the roots of a growing plant, such as to combat a subsurface insect infestation. Accordingly, soil blends having insecticidal activity can comprise a soil medium, a porous soil additive, and an insecticide dispersed within the soil medium. Such soil blends may be used in conjunction with cultivating a variety of plants. Methods for producing the soil blends can comprise providing a soil medium and a porous soil additive, and dispersing the porous soil additive and an insecticide within the soil medium.

Abstract: A method of forming an antimicrobial film, including providing a substrate with a polymer coating disposed thereon, the polymer coating including: an antimicrobial material, an inner surface contacting the substrate, and an outer surface opposite the inner surface; and extracting ions from the antimicrobial material toward the outer surface, such that the outer surface interacts with surface microorganisms. A composition, including a polymer; an antimicrobial material; and at least one of an organic solvent and an additive. The antimicrobial material comprises at least one of copper-containing glass particles, copper oxide particles, copper metal particles, copper salts, copper coordination complexes, cuprite crystals, and a combination thereof. Further, the additive can be selected to increase the oxidation resistance of the antimicrobial material.
