The amidic polymers of the invention may be employed in a wide variety of compositions, particularly in subterranean drilling operations. Non-limiting generic structures of the amidic polymers are set out below: ( l ) wherein R 1 -R 3 and integers m and n are defined herein.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for measuring a two-dimensional distribution of ionizing radiation doses with high spatial resolution. The method comprises exposing radiation sensitive film to a pattern of ionizing radiation to form a measurement film, exposing areas of radiation sensitive film to a plurality of known doses of the ionizing radiation to form a calibration film(s), scanning all the exposed films together with an unexposed radiation sensitive film at a single time to produce a digital image, measuring those areas of the digital image corresponding to the unexposed film and the calibration film(s) exposed to different known doses, associating the measured responses in the areas to the known doses and using the association to convert the values in the scanned image corresponding to the measurement film from scanner response values to dose values. In a preferred embodiment, all of the radiation sensitive films are the same type of film.
Abstract:
Provided are multifunctional polymers comprising at least one anhydride repeating unit with at least one pseudo-cationic moiety graft and at least one hydrophobic graft. The grafting functionalizations can occur before, during, or after polymerizing the monomer(s). The anhydride employed may be partially or fully opened to provide amic acids, carboxylic acids, carboxylic acidic salts, imides, esters, and mixtures thereof. The polymers also may comprise other repeating units, including, but not limited to, alpha-olefins. In one embodiment the polymers exhibit antimicrobial activity, and can be employed in a wide variety of compositions, including those where antimicrobial activity is useful. A method of providing microbial activity also is provided.
Abstract:
Branched polymers are prepared from at least (A) at least one monomer having an electron donor moiety, (B) at least one monomer having an electron acceptor moiety, and (C) at least one multifunctional branching agent comprising a urea moiety and at least two N-vinyl groups. The branched polymers are least 20% (by weight) soluble in a solvent for which the corresponding polymer of equal molecular weight made without said multifunctional branching agent is at least 20% (by weight) soluble. Due in part to the wide range of chemistries and solubility and rheological properties, the branched polymers find application in personal care, pharmaceutical/nutritional, and performance chemicals compositions.
Abstract:
A water miscible emulsion composition which is essentially free of long-chain alkylpyrrolidone and aromatic oil comprising: (i) a long chain substituted amide; (ii) a water insoluble film forming polymer; (iii) a water soluble anionic surfactant; and (iv) optionally, a bioactive, is particularly useful in providing water repellency and delaying the onset of fungi growth on crops and leaves.
Abstract:
Provided are novel 4- and 5-substituted 1,2,3-triazoles, and regioisomer mixtures thereof, modified polymers, wherein the substituted 1,2,3-triazoles are modified by reaction with a modifying polymer (maleic anhydride based polymer). Depending upon the ratio of the substituted 1,2,3-triazole to the maleic anhydride based polymer employed, the resulting modified polymers can provide maleic anhydride based polymers that are partially or fully reacted with the substituted 1,2,3-triazoles. The resulting modified polymers may be partially or fully opened to provide amic acids, carboxylic acids, carboxylic acidic salts, imides, or esters. The novel 4- or 5- substituted 1,2,3-triazoles, and regioisomer mixtures thereof, modified polymers can be converted to a wide variety of useful polymers and may be employed in a wide variety of compositions. An example of a modified polymer may be represented by the structure:formule : (l) wherein m, n, and q are defined herein.
Abstract:
Sun-care products are described that protect from UV radiation and do not turn white when applied to wet skin. The sun-care product may comprise (A) a cosmetically-acceptable, substantially non-aqueous vehicle, and (B) a UV active, wherein said non-aqueous vehicle comprises alcohol in an amount of 50% (w/w) or less based on the weight of the sun-care product and an ester wherein said non-aqueous vehicle comprises at least 10%> by weight esters based on the total weight of the non-aqueous vehicle and said sun-care product is substantially non- whitening upon application to wet skin.

The composition comprises a unique water-soluble matrix composite, at least one water-immiscible or water- insoluble antimicrobial agent, and optionally, a preservative or preservative system, a weak carboxylic acid, a coloring agent and other additives. Examples of antimicrobial agents include menthol, thymol, eucalyptol and/or methyl salicylate. A process for preparing the oral care composition is also disclosed.
Abstract:
Provided herein are thickened compositions produced upon assembling a first sub-formulation having a hydroxide, and at least one second sub -formulation having an alkaline material, wherein at least one sub-formulation is thickened by lightly- to moderately-crosslinked PVP. Unlike other compositions not having the lightly- to moderately-crosslinked PVP, those described herein maintain or even build viscosity when the first and second sub -formulations are blended. The compositions may be utilized in the formulation of personal care and performance chemicals, such as hair relaxers, hair straighteners, depilators, degreasers, paint strippers, and cleaners. Methods for enhancing product handling and performance are also described.
