Abstract:
The present invention provides novel compositions and methods for use in the treatment of cancer, specifically, in the treatment of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). The compositions contain antisense oligonucleotides that hybridize to Grb2 and Crk1 nucleic acids, the gene products of which are known to interact with the tumorigenic protein bcr-abl. Used alone, in conjunction with each other, and even in conjunction with antisense oligonucleotides directed to bcr-abl nucleic acids, these compositions inhibit the proliferation of CML cancer cells.
Abstract:
Disclosed is the use of copper cysteamine nanoparticles for use in photodynamic cancer therapy. The disclosed methods of treatment utilize microwave radiation as a means for activating the copper cysteamine photosensitizer.
Abstract:
An extramedullary bone lengthener and use thereof that is an internal device that does not require nailing. The invention includes a telescoping plate that attaches to the upper and lower portions of the bone via screws; a small motor affixed on or within the plate. This motor, controlled remotely, will controllably lengthen the plate, thus lengthening the bone. The bone will be cut (osteotomy) then the plate will be applied to both ends and fixed to each end with screws. The motor will be controlled from outside by a remote control which will allow the plate to expand causing lengthening of the attached bone.
Abstract:
A sensor platform for analyzing an analyte with a predetermined reagent is presented. The sensor platform has a housing defining an interior chamber configured to hold the analyte. A tube defining an inner lumen extends through the chamber. At least a portion of the tube is porous and configured to absorb the analyte at a predetermined rate. A sensor is coupled to an end of the tube and is configured to sense changes in the material positioned in the inner lumen of the tube as the reagent reacts with the absorbed analyte.
Abstract:
According to an illustrative embodiment, provided herein are paramagnetic chemical exchange saturation transfer MRI contrast agents having a tetraazacyclododecane ligand and a paramagnetic ion that provides a ratiometric imaging measurement that can be used to measure biological parameters including pH, temperature, reactive oxygen species, and specific enzymes, among others. The agents and compounds may also be usable in other applications. Methods of use and synthesis of the agents and compounds herein are also provided.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to methods of reducing mortality in a subject exposed to a lethal dose of radiation comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a thrombin peptide derivative described herein. Also included are methods of reducing the risk of developing bacterial, fungal or viral systemic infection a subject who is exposed or not exposed to radiation, methods of treating a subject with traumatic injury, dermal injury and/or bum injury who is also exposed to radiation, methods of reducing radiation related injury in a subject undergoing radiation therapy, methods of reducing the risk of developing a radiation induced illness, and methods of promoting the healing of a wound that is caused by radiation exposure and/or has been exposed to radiation. These methods comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a thrombin peptide derivative described herein.
Abstract:
A wireless microtransponder array constructed as a single structure of joined microtransponders. The microtransponders can be configured as a linear array strip with connective material in between. The microtransponders can also be entirely embedded within a strip of material, or joined by a single, common substrate structure.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods and compositions for detecting early stage ovarian cancer in a patient. Also, methods for evaluating the ovarian cancer state of a patient are described herein. These methods involve the detection, analysis, and classification of biomarkers in biological samples.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention provide a method for detecting a composition comprising (a) providing a first composition which reacts with an oxidase to generate a second composition; (b) providing nitrogen-doped nanocarbons; and (c) detecting the first composition with the nanocarbons. Devices and systems containing such nitrogen-doped nanocarbons are also provided.
Abstract:
Disclosed are thrombin peptide derivative dimers comprising two polypeptides having the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO. 2: Arg-Gly-Asp-Ala-Cys-Glu-Gly-Asp-Ser-Gly-Gly-Pro-Phe-Val, or a C-terminal truncated fragment of the polypeptide having at least six amino acids. Zero, one, two, or three amino acids in the polypeptide or polypeptide fragment differ from the corresponding position of SEQ ID NO. 2. Also disclosed are methods of treating a subject in need of treatment with a thrombin receptor agonist. The methods comprise the step of administering an effective amount of the thrombin peptide derivative described above.
