The cable consists of a core part and of outer wires (2) twisted around the core part. The core part consists of two wires (1) twisted around each other, the section of the said wires being based on a circle, or of one wire (3) twisted around its own axis and having a flattened section. The direction of twisting of the core part (1 or 3) is opposite to the direction of twisting of the outer wires (2).

Procédé de fabrication d'un câble métallique (C-1, C-2) à deux couches (Ci, Ce) concentriques de fils (11, 20, 17, 21), de construction M + N, comportant une couche interne ou noyau (Ci) de M fils (11, 20), M variant de 1 à 4, et une couche externe (Ce) de N fils (17, 21), du type « gommé in situ » c'est-à-dire gommé de l'intérieur (22), pendant sa fabrication même, par du caoutchouc ou une composition de caoutchouc, ledit procédé comportant au moins les étapes suivantes : • - une étape de gainage de la couche interne (Ci) par ledit caoutchouc ou ladite composition de caoutchouc, par passage à travers une tête d'extrusion (15); • - une étape d'assemblage des N fils de la couche externe (Ce) autour de la couche interne (Ci), pour formation du câble à deux couches ainsi gommé de l'intérieur, ledit caoutchouc est un élastomère thermoplastique insaturé extrudé à l'état fondu, préférentiellement un élastomère thermoplastique du type styrénique (« TPS ») tel que par exemple un copolymère à blocs SBS ou SIS.

A steel cord (10) for reinforcing rubber product comprises at least one core strand (12) and outer strands (14), the outer strands (14) are helically twisted around at least one core strand (12). Each of the strands (12, 14) comprises core steel filaments (16, 20) with the number of m and outer steel filaments with the number of n. The diameter of the core steel filaments in the core strand is Dcc, the diameter of the outer steel filaments in the core strand is Doc, the diameter of the core steel filament in the outer strand is Dco, and the diameter of the outer steel filament in the outer strand is Doo. The ratio of Dcc/Doc is not less than 1.04, the ratio of Dco/Doo is not less than 1.03, and the ratio of Doc/Dco is not less than 1. The core steel filaments and outer steel filaments are polygonally preformed before being twisted into strands. The steel cord is used for reinforcing off-the-road tire.

A steel cord (10) adapted for the reinforcement of rubber products, comprises a core strand (12) and six peripheral strands (14) concentrically surrounding the core strand (12). Each of the core and peripheral strands (12, 14) comprises a centre of two or more centre filaments (16) and two layers of filaments surrounding the centre. The core strand (12) has a diameter D1 which is greater than the diameter D2 of the peripheral strands (14). All the filaments (18, 20) of each layer have substantially the same diameter and a radially outer layer has a twist angle which is greater than a twist angle of a radially inner layer of the same strand. Each of the strands (12, 14) in the cord is composed of no more than twenty-six filaments (16, 18, 20) being twisted together.

The present invention provides structure of steel cord in heavy duty tires, in which the adhesive strength between filament and rubber, and penetrating property of rubber are improved by making the twist direction of core and strand different in the steel cord comprising core and strand filament, and by making the pitch or the twist period of core and strand different. In particular, this structure is applied to steel cord of 3+8*d(HT) which is used in heavy duty tires. In this application, twist direction of core filament is in the S direction and twist direction of strand filament is in the Z direction, and the ratio of the pitch of core filament (CP) and the pitch of strand filament (SP) is between 0.50 and 0.94.
