摘要:
A multilayer thermal insulation composite for fire protection applications. The composite includes a fibrous insulation layer, at least one inorganic heat absorbing layer disposed on one side of the fibrous insulation layer, and at least one superinsulation layer disposed on at least one side of the composite adjacent the heat absorbing layer or the fibrous insulation layer. The composite may further include a scrim layer comprising a high temperature resistant, flexible, woven or non-woven scrim or scrim and high temperature resistant material disposed around the multilayer thermal insulation composite partially or substantially totally encapsulating the composite. The composite is lightweight and flexible, exhibits reduced heat transfer to the cold-face, with improved thermal insulation capability.

An assembly for application of a polymeric film to at least one surface of a device comprises: the polymeric film to be applied to the surface, wherein the polymeric film comprises an outwardly exposed adhesive layer and a shape compatible with the surface of the device; and, an application film adhered to the polymeric film on a side opposite that of the adhesive layer, wherein the application film laterally extends from the polymeric film for handling of the assembly by grasping the application film without touching the polymeric film. Kits of the invention comprise such an assembly and a squeegee for removing entrapped air bubbles after the polymeric film of the assembly is adhered to the surface of the electronic device. Methods using such assemblies and kits are also disclosed.

Thin film photovoltaic modules that include strings of thin film cells laminated between a transparent flexible barrier layer and a multi-layer backsheet configured to stabilize the module and to reduce or control thermo-mechanical stresses leading to undesirable effects such as warping and ribbon buckling, among others. In some cases, the backsheet has an effective TEC that relatively closely matches the TEC of the cells, resulting in improved module stability. Alternatively or in addition, the backsheet may include one or more relatively thick flexible layers, again resulting in improved stability. Various materials may be used with TECs that are chosen to minimize a particular thermo-mechanical stress, and/or to provide a module with a predetermined amount of curvature.

Described are protective and/or ballistic resistant articles made from one or more layers of fabric bound to one or more layers of a machine direction oriented film. The described articles exhibit excellent abrasion resistance. The articles include those made using woven and/or non-woven fabrics such as unidirectional fabrics. Methods for producing ballistic-resistant articles using woven and/or non-woven fabrics and machine direction oriented film are also described.

Disclosed are fibrous activated materials that can remove and/or deactivate potentially dangerous airborne agents from a gas or air stream. Disclosed materials are multi-layer materials that include a fibrous nonwoven interceptor layer and an active layer immediately adjacent the interceptor layer. The interceptor layer is a fibrous membrane of very low basis weight and defines a relatively low porosity, and the active layer describes geometries, chemistries, etc. that can entrap and/or decontaminate compounds contained in an airstream passing through the material. Disclosed materials can be utilized in forming protective garments, face masks, and the like.

A chemical protective fabric garment (12) includes a first fabric layer (22, 24), and a barrier layer (26) bonded to the first fabric layer. The barrier layer includes a nonwoven membrane (60, 80) that is formed of fibers with embedded particles (63) having one or more detoxifying properties, such as being absorptive of hazardous gases and/or being catalytically destructive of hazardous gases.
