Abstract:
An article having a nanostructured surface and a method of making the same are described. The article can include a substrate and a nanostructured layer bonded to the substrate. The nanostructured layer can include a plurality of spaced apart nanostructured features comprising a contiguous, protrusive material and the nanostructured features can be sufficiently small that the nanostructured layer is optically transparent. A surface of the nanostructured features can be coated with a continuous hydrophobic coating. The method can include providing a substrate; depositing a film on the substrate; decomposing the film to form a decomposed film; and etching the decomposed film to form the nanostructured layer.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to porous ceramic articles and a method of making the same. The porous ceramic articles have microstructure of sinter bonded or reaction bonded large pre-reacted particles and pore network structure exhibiting large pore necks. The method of making the porous ceramic articles involves using pre-reacted particles having one or more phases. A plastic ceramic precursor composition is also disclosed. The composition includes a mixture of at least one of dense, porous, or hollow spheroidal pre-reacted particles and a liquid vehicle.

Abstract:
Laminated glass articles and methods for making the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, a laminated glass article may include a glass core layer and at least one glass cladding layer fused to the glass core layer. The at least one glass cladding layer may be phase separated into a first phase and at least one second phase having different compositions. The first phase of the at least one glass cladding layer may have an interconnected matrix. The at least one second phase of the at least one glass cladding layer may be dispersed throughout the interconnected matrix of the first phase of the at least one glass cladding layer. In some embodiments, the at least one second phase may be selectively removed from the interconnected matrix leaving a porous, interconnected matrix of the first phase.
Abstract:
Disclosed are coating apparatus including flow coating and roll-coating that may be used for uniform sol-gel coating of substrates such as glass, solar panels, windows or part of an electronic display. Also disclosed are methods for substrate preparation, flow coating and roll coating. Lastly systems and methods for skin curing sol-gel coatings deposited onto the surface of glass substrates using a high temperature air-knife are disclosed.
Abstract:
Described herein are coated glass or glass-ceramic articles having improved reflection resistance. Further described are methods of making and using the improved articles. The coated articles generally include a glass or glass-ceramic substrate and a nanoporous Si- containing coating disposed thereon. The nanoporous Si-containing coating is not a free-standing adhesive film, but a coating that is fonned on or over the glass or glass-ceramic substrate.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an optical member including a porous glass film on a base member, wherein a ripple is suppressed. The optical member includes the base member and the porous glass film disposed on the base member, wherein the porosity increases in the direction from the base member toward the porous glass film in an interfacial region between the base member and the porous glass film and the porosity is continuous in the film thickness direction from the base member to the surface of the porous glass film in the optical member.

Abstract:
A method for inhibiting corrosion under insulation (CUl) on the exterior of a structure, e.g., pipelines, piping, vessels and tanks, is provided. The method involves providing a stnicture that is at least partially formed from a corrosion resistant carbon steel (CRCS) composition. The CRCS composition includes corrosion resistance alloying additions in the amount of 0.1 weight percent to 9 weight percent. At least one alloying addition has a low free energy of formation for its oxide and/or hydroxide, e.g., vanadium and/or titanium. A corrosion inhibited structure that includes a structure at least partially formed from a corrosion resistant carbon steel (CRCS) composition, and insulation positioned around at least a portion of the structure.
