Abstract:
Data indicating a transfer mode of a transmission packet, as well as data indicating a timing mode of a transmission packet, is inserted in a payload unit contained in a transmission packet of a serial digital transfer interface (SDTI). A transfer mode includes, in addition to an asynchronous transfer mode, a synchronous transfer mode and an isochronous transfer mode. A timing mode which specifies with which field of a transmission frame a transmission packet is to be synchronized in transferring the transmission packet, includes a normal mode using a first field, an advanced mode using a second field and a dual mode using both fields. A system delay between transmission and reception can be minimized by a proper setting of a timing mode.
Abstract:
The present invention is an operations center (202) that organizes and packages television programs for transmission in a television delivery system (200). The center is capable of receiving, storing, packaging and delivering countless programs in various signal formats. The center's primary components are a receiver (300), system controller (312), video storage (308), computer assisted packaging system (316), and output equipment (320). The components can receive, convert, store, select, retrieve, encode and otherwise process multiple program signals, gather program identities of analog and/or digital programs, generate menus, package programs efficiently based on subscriber needs and the available bandwidth, and output packaged program products to multiple remote sites (208). To perform these functions, the CAP (316) creates program lineups, menus, instructions on the packaging of programs, and/or allocates available bandwidth. In the preferred embodiment, the packaged program products contain programs, control information, and menus.
Abstract:
A viewer interface for a television program delivery system (200) is described. The innovation relates to methods and devices for viewer pathways to television programs. Specifically, the interface involves hardware and software used in conjunction with a television at the viewer home to create a user friendly menu based approach to television program access. The device is particularly useful in a program delivery system (200) with hundreds of programs and a data signal carrying program information. The disclosure describes menu generation and menu selection of television programs.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of transcoding video sequences for delivery in a mobile network. A source video sequence including source video frames is received and a source video frame type associated with each of the source video frames is determined based on a differential between a composition time stamp (CTS) and a decoding time stamp (DTS) associated with each of the source video frames. A frame type ratio value for the target frame-types is calculated based on a longest mini-GOP length. A target frame size of each target video frame is determined based on the frame type ratio value and a target transcoding rate, and each of the target video frames in a target video track is encoded to the target frame size to form a target video sequence.

Abstract:
A method for mapping cells onto symbols is provided. The cells include two or more cells processed by pre-coding in groups, the symbols include N symbols in a time-sequence, and each symbol includes M carriers in a frequency-order. The method comprises: mapping each cell to a carrier of a symbol; and frequency interleaving the carriers of each symbol. The mapping and the frequency interleaving are performed such that, following the frequency interleaving, the cells of a group of pre-coded cells are each mapped to carriers having the same carrier frequency or to carriers having carrier frequencies differing by no more than a threshold.
