Abstract:
Methods of creating and displaying video advertisements and systems implementing the methods are disclosed. The method includes creating a user interface wherein an advertiser chooses multi-media assets and their programmatically described rendering behavior, creating a user interface wherein the advertiser chooses a time, program, and audience to display the video advertisement to, transmitting multi-media assets and their programmatically described rendering behavior as a program to be stored on each member of the target audience's viewer devices, and transmitting a signal to each member of the target audience's viewer device to render multi-media assets and corresponding program for advertisement message.
Abstract:
A terminal for communicating with a communication satellite A terminal comprising: a first transceiver for communicating with at least one device in a short range network; a second transceiver for communicating with a geostationary communication satellite in a network deploying a plurality of forward channels for the communication satellite to transmit data to said terminal and a plurality of return channels for the terminal to transmit data to said communication satellite, the second transceiver being configured to transmit data from said at least one device in one of said plurality of return channels. The at least one device may comprise a plurality of utility meters and other sensors. A large system comprising a plurality of the terminals, a communication satellite and a data authority may provide a system for collecting utility meter readings across a geographical region.
Abstract:
A method of processing a multicast frame in a wireless local area network (WLAN) and an appartus supporting the method are provided. The method comprises receiving, at a station, a unicast frame from an access point (AP), the unicast frame including an unicast address indicating a single station which receives the unicast frame, receiving a multicast frame from the AP, the multicast frame including a group address indicating a group of stations which receives the multicast frame, determining whether the unicast frame is duplicated with the multicast frame, and discarding the multicast frame if the unicast frame is duplicated with the multicast frame.
Abstract:
An apparatus for controlling fraud in a satellite signal delivery system. An apparatus in accordance with the present invention comprises a receive antenna for receiving at least one satellite signal, and a module, coupled to the receive antenna, for selectively delivering the at least one satellite signal to at least one receiver via an output of the module, wherein the module creates an association between the module and the at least one receiver upon installation of the at least one receiver to the output, such that the module delivers the at least one satellite signal to the at least one receiver only when the association is present.
Abstract:
At least a first image, such as a motion video image, is prepared for integration with at least a second image, such as a motion video image and/or a still image. The first image may be a barker, and the second image may be a menu or programming guide. To prepare the first image for integration, a first compressed image is formed, restricted to a first region of a first image area by representing at least one segment of a first image within the first region with a reference to another segment of the first image within the first region. The second image may also be prepared for integration by forming a second compressed image. The second compressed image may be restricted to a second region of a second image area by representing at least one segment of the second image within the second region with a reference to another segment of the second image within the second region. The first and second images are combined by selecting a portion of the first compressed image, selecting a portion of the second compressed image, and combining the selected portions to form an integrated image.
Abstract:
A system and method for permitting users to receive desired/user-specific data or information, e.g., electronic mail or other user-subscribed services, e.g., for textual information, over the airwaves via a receiver, e.g., a digital receiver. In one embodiment, an authorization process is provided wherein the receiver includes a hard-coded user ID stored thereon for comparison with an input user ID encoded with user-specific data signals. A splitter permits simultaneous processing of e.g., radio frequency signals including user-specific information via an authorization path, as well as radio frequency signals having standard audio and/or audio/video information. The authorization path includes an out-of-band tuner and an authorizing means for authorizing user-specific data transmissions for retrieval by an authorized receiver.
Abstract:
Methods, radioterminals, and broadcast message generation consoles provide location-based broadcast messaging for users. A method of operating a radioterminal can include receiving at the radioterminal over a wireless air interface a broadcast message that includes region information that defines a geographic region of applicability. A determination is made at the radioterminal whether the radioterminal is located in the region of applicability. A functional mode of the radioterminal is activated in response to the radioterminal being in the region of applicability. The functional mode may include activating a user interface of the radioterminal.
Abstract:
A targeted integrated image is created for delivery to a user. Content of potential interest to the user is determined based on at least one user preference. This determination may be made prior to or during the user's request for an image, such as video content, or while the user is receiving an image, such as a menu or programming guide. An image representing the content of potential interest to the user, such as a barker is selected and combined with another image of interest to the user to form a targeted integrated image for delivery to the user. The user preference may include information representing content viewing habits or content ordering habits of the user. The user preferences may be associated with the identity of the user.
