A diagnosis of an actuator (P) is carried out by supplying a predetermined energy to the actuator (Pm) via a transfer circuit (Us). The actuator voltage (up) and the actuator current (ip) or the actuator charge (Qp) are used to determine the presence of defective function states of the actuators (Pm) and its supply lines, transient or permanent interruptions, short circuits inside the actuator (Pm) or its supply lines or too low capacitance values, by analysing the deviation of the values that are detected from predetermined comparative values.

The invention relates to a fuel injection valve having a valve element (14) which is controlled by the pressure in a control pressure chamber (23), and whose opening movement is influenced via a compensation pressure surface (21) of the valve element (14). The compensation pressure surface is contiguous to a hydraulic chamber (20) whose pressure is controlled by means of a piston (33). This piston keeps the hydraulic prestress of the hydraulic chamber (20) reduced to a substantially constant value, and can compensate volume changes of the hydraulic chamber by being displaced against a reference pressure (39).

A pilot valve (93) is disposed in the housing (126) and includes a valve element (104) movable between first and second positions. A movable spool (118) is also disposed in the housing (126) and includes third and fourth sealing surfaces (150, 154) engageable with the first and second sealing surfaces (152, 156), respectively, carried by the housing (126) to connect the outlet (144, 170) to the low pressure inlet (142, 168) when the valve element (104) is in the first position and to connect the outlet (144, 170) to the high pressure inlet (140, 166) when the valve element (104) is in the second position.

A solid actuator has an actuator structural unit, a top plate and a base plate. A hollow cylinder part made of maraging steel is provided. The hollow cylinder part is heated to a predetermined first temperature (T1) at which the maraging steel is in an austenitic state. A corrugated tube is shaped from the hollow cylinder part by means of a shaping process, while the maraging steel is still in an austenitic state. The corrugated tube is cooled and in such a way that the maraging steel is in a martensitic state. The actuator structural unit is inserted into the corrugated tube. The top plate and the base plate are fixed to the corrugated tube such that the actuator structural unit is clamped between the top plate and the base plate at a predetermined pre-tension.

Die Erfindung betrifft einen Kraftstoffinjektor (10), mit einem Injektorgehäuse (11), einem in dem Injektorgehäuse (11) in einer Ausnehmung (23) angeordneten, elektrisch betätigbaren Aktor (22) zum Ansteuern eines wenigstens eine Auslassöffnung (16) im Injektorgehäuse (11) verschließenden und öffnenden Ventilelements (15), einer Kraftstoffzuführung (18) und einem Kraftstoffrücklauf (28) im Injektorgehäuse (11), wobei eine Rückströmmenge des Kraftstoffs beim Rückströmen im Kraftstoffrücklauf (28) den Aktor (22) in der Ausnehmung (23) zumindest teilweise umströmt. Erfindungsgemäß ist es vorgesehen, dass das Injektorgehäuse (11) einen zusätzlichen Kraftstoffanschluss (30) aufweist, der mit der Ausnehmung (23) hydraulisch verbunden ist und über den Kraftstoff in die Ausnehmung (23) einleitbar ist, wobei über den zusätzlichen Kraftstoffanschluss (30) eingeleiteter Kraftstoff sich mit der Rückströmmenge vermischt und in den Kraftstoffrücklauf (28) ableitbar ist.

A programmable diesel fuel injector that increases frequency response and control precision over desired fuel flow rates throughout each injection event. All valve frequency and motional requirements are met by a compensated direct drive, which is enabled by the durable capability of a rare earth alloy to lengthen in a magnetic field. A continuously variable electrical input waveform is predetermined to result in the desired fuel injection rate shape. A magnetostrictive transducer converts voltage and current into continuously variable force and displacement of a master piston acting upon fuel within a closed chamber. A slave piston responds to the fuel pressure changes within the closed chamber and acts upon the spool of a spool valve to eject fuel.

Bei einem Verfahren zum Ansteuern eines Kraftstoffinjektors (5) eines Einspritzsystems (1) für Brennkraftmaschinen, wobei der Kraftstoffinjektor (5) einen ansteuerbaren Piezoaktor (15) zum Schalten eines die Einspritzung mit unter Hochdruck stehendem Kraftstoff steuernden Schaltventils (11) des Kraftstoffinjektors (5) aufweist, wird im Falle einer Störung oder eines im Einspritzsystem (1) detektierten Überdruckes der Piezoaktor (15) für einen Teil- oder Vollhub des Schaltventils (11) angesteuert.
