Abstract:
An insertion and encoder system monitors broadcasts from a first broadcasting system to determine the presence of segments that can be substituted in a second broadcast. In one embodiment, the system and method determines whether the first segment from the first broadcast has been sold for the second broadcasting system. In this example embodiment, if the first segment has not been sold for the second broadcasting system, it is substituted for a second segment. The system and method accesses an inventory of sold substitution segments and substitutes a sold segment for the unsold segment in real time. In one embodiment, sold advertisement segments are substituted for unsold advertisement segments that are broadcast to a wide audience over the Internet. Segments are selected in accordance with predefined criteria that can include user demographics and/or personal preferences.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for networked in-store media advertising. A local media advertising system is operably coupled to a media content server via a communications network such as the Internet. The local media advertising system receives advertising content and an advertising content display schedule from the content server. The local media advertising system displays the advertising content according to the advertising content display schedule. The local media advertising system has a viewer sensor that the local media advertising system uses to compile viewer data about the number of viewers and customers in the vicinity of the displayed media content. The local media advertising system generates viewer information about how many viewers and customers were in the vicinity of the displayed advertising content using the viewer data and the advertising content display schedule. The local media advertising system then transmits the viewer information to a statistics server via the communications network. Advertisers can then retrieve the viewer information from the statistics server in order to monitor the effectiveness of an advertising campaign.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus (1) for transmitting advertisement data to receivers (20) of the viewers registered on the transmission side. The transmission side receives data featuring the brackets to which the viewers belong from the viewers (3), receives data featuring the bracket of the viewers which is the object of the advertisement data and correlates the data with the advertisement data (3), selects some of the advertisement data to be transmitted to the receivers of the viewers from the advertisement data according to the degree of the matching of the data featuring the viewer bracket with the data featuring the viewer brackets of the object of the advertisement and allocates the selected advertisement data to the viewers (6), and transmits the allocated data to the receivers (20) of the respective viewers.
Abstract:
The most preferred embodiment of the present invention is a computer-based decision support system that includes three main components: a database mining engine (DME) (127); an advertising optimization mechanism (128); and a customized user interface (125) that provides access to the various features of the invention. The user interface (125), in conjunction with the DME (128), provides a unique and innovative way to store, retrieve and manipulate data from existing databases containing media-related audience access data, which describe the access habits and preferences of the media audience. By using a database with a simplified storage and retrieval protocol, the data contained therein can be effectively manipulated in real time. This means that previously complex and lengthy information retrieval and analysis activities can be accomplished in very short periods of time (typically seconds instead of minutes or even hours). Further, by utilizing the advertising optimization mechanism (128) of the present invention, businesses, networks, and advertising agencies can interactively create, store, rank and compare various proposed or actual advertising strategies in a simple and efficient manner. This allows the decision-makers to more effectively tailor their marketing efforts and successfully reach the desired target market while conserving scarce advertising capital. Finally, the user interface (125) for the system provides access to both the DME (127) and the optimization mechanism in a simple and straightforward manner, significantly reducing training time.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a telecommunication method comprising the following steps: integration of programme-related digital data into a TV or radio programme and transmission of said programme; reception and playback of the programme by a mobile telephone combined with a TV or radio receiving system, where the receiving system comprises a chip card reader into which the user of the receiving system can insert a SIM card to identify himself; display of at least one option corresponding to the integrated digital data on a display of the receiving system and selection of an option by the user of the receiving system; preparation of a message corresponding to the selected option by the SIM card, where the message prepared comprises at least one data field from the digital data being received; transmission of the above message by a bidirectional mobile telephone network to a server; automatic user identification by a server, whereby the user identification process uses information stored in the identification card and transmitted by the above bidirectional telecommunications network; linking of at least some received data with user-specific data.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a machine for counting the members of an audience. The machine registers responses from the audience through a novel sampling method and multiplies the number of responses by a stored multiplier to yield an approximate audience count. The machine is enhanced by features for adjusting the multiplier to audience characteristics. Also disclosed is a decision system for use when parties disagree on which alternative to pick. The system registers the votes for each alternative and assigns each alternative a probability of being picked corresponding to the number of votes it has gotten. The system then picks an alternative by random number generation. The system can be used by single judges to decide upon alternatives by assigning each alternative a probability of being picked. Also disclosed is a system for authenticating financial messages.

Abstract:
Examples relate to a method, a computer program, an apparatus and a system for determining information related to an audience of an audio-visual content program. The method comprises monitoring at least a subset of the audience. The method further comprises determining the information related to the audience based on the monitored subset of the audience. The information related to the audience comprises measured metrics for the subset of the audience. The method further comprises determining at least one conversion factor based on a relationship between a property value measured within at least one previously monitored audience subsets and the corresponding property value of the previous audience. The at least one conversion factor indicates a relationship between a property measured within the monitored subset of the audience and at least one property of the audience. The method further comprises estimating the at least one property of the audience based on the at least one conversion factor.
Abstract:
A method for generating a signature is disclosed. As part of the method, a first number of bits are identified in respective rows of an audio signature matrix that are determined to be the strongest bits in the row, bits of the audio signature matrix are replaced with respective cells having values depending on whether the respective bits are included in the first number of bits, a set of uniformly distributed numbers are generated within a range of numbered locations corresponding to cells of the audio signature matrix; numerical distances are determined, from respective numbers in the set of uniformly distributed numbers, to the numbered locations of the matrix, associated with nearest occurrences of a first value. A set of integers is generated based on the distances.
