Abstract:
The invention provides multi-layer transparent units (such as double-glazing units) of single-layer seal type which are excellent in shape retention and the resistance to moisture transmission. A multi-layer transparent unit (such as a double-glazing unit) of single-layer type, set by the use of an elastomer spacer alone, wherein the elastomer spacer contains as the matrix component at least one butyl elastomer selected from the group consisting of polyisobutylene, butyl rubbers, and modified butyl rubbers and the molecular weight index (MWI) as defined by the formula (1) is 400000 or above: [wherein i is an integer of 1 or above which represents the number of kinds of butyl elastomers contained in the spacer as the matrix component; and Mw(i) is a viscosity-average molecular weight of the ith butyl elastomer], and wherein the elastomer spacer is free from crystalline polyolefins or if it contains crystalline polyolefins, the content thereof is as low as less than 2% by mass.
Abstract:
The present invention is an improved polymeric composition comprising a free-radical reactive polymer, an organic peroxide, and a graftable stable organic free radical. The present invention permits suppression of an undesirable degradation or carbon-carbon crosslinking reaction while permitting the polymer to undergo the desirable grafting reaction.
Abstract:
Crosslinkable elastomeric composition comprising: at least one vulcanized rubber in a subdivided form surface treated with at least one silane coupling agent; at least one diene elastomeric polymer; at least one sulfur-based vulcanizing agent. Said crosslinkable elastomeric composition is advantageously used in the production of crosslinked manufactured products, in particular in the production of tires for vehicle wheels.
Abstract:
An implantable or insertable medical device which comprises (a) a therapeutic agent and (b) a polymeric release region comprising a polymer. The polymeric release region is treated with a radiation dose that is effective to substantially increase the cumulative release of the therapeutic agent subsequent to administration to a patient. The polymeric release region can be, for example, (a) a carrier region that comprises the therapeutic agent or (b) a barrier region that is disposed over a therapeutic-agent containing region that comprises the therapeutic agent. The present invention is further directed to methods of forming such medical devices, methods of releasing a therapeutic agent within a patient using such medical devices, and methods of modulating the release of a therapeutic agent from such medical devices.
Abstract:
A high-density composite material and its use in the manufacture of less-lethal ammunition projectile is disclosed. The composite ammunition projectile material is produced from a compact mixture of fine iron powder, a highly damping, inert, non-toxic elastomer and an inert non-toxic thermoplastic elastomer. The composite ammunition projectile material is first blended, then the projectile is injection molded or compression molded. The density of the composite ammunition projectile material is adjustable in terms of ratio of iron powder to elastomer to thermoplastic elastomer block co-polymer, but a minimum density of 2.4 gcm is preferred. A blend comprising an elastomer and a thermoplastic elastomer with low creep is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A composition suitable for an air barrier such as an automotive tire innertube, innerliner, and aircraft tire innertube or innerliner, curing bladders, and other pneumatic devices is disclosed. The composition comprises an elastomer, a processing oil, and a resin.
Abstract:
The present invention provides polyolefin compositions that exhibit both stiffness and toughness. Polyolefin compositions according to the invention include a polyolefin homopolymer resin such as polypropylene and an impact modifying fluid that includes a nonionic surfactant and optionally a diluent such as mineral oil. The nonionic surfactant can be an ethoxylated sorbitan fatty acid ester such as ethoxylated sorbitan trioleate. Unfilled impact modified polypropylene homopolymer formed in accordance with the invention preferably exhibits a Gardner impact strength of at least 100 in-Ibs, a flexural modulus of at least 40 kpsi and a tensile modulus of at least 60 kpsi.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a composition suitable for an air barrier such as an automotive tire innertube, innerliner, and aircraft tire innertube or innerliner, curing bladders, and other pneumatic devices. THe compositioncomprises an elastomer comprising C4 to C7 isoolefin derived units; and a plastomer, wherein the plastomer is a copolymer of ethylene derived units and C3 to C10a-olefin derived units, the plastomer having a density of less than 0.915 g/cm3. In a desirable embodiment, naphthenic and aromatic oils are substantially absent from the composition. In another embodiment, a polybutene processing oil is present. Further, in yet another embodiment, a secondary rubber is alos present such as, for example, natural rubber or butyl rubber, or a butadiene-based rubber.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an adhesive composition suitable for bonding to a polymeric material and steel. The composition comprises specified proportions of a maleic anhydride-modified propylene-ethylene copolymer resin, a maleic anhydride-modified polyethylene, a polyisobutylene, a terpolymer comprising ethylene, propylene and a non-conjugated diene, and a hydrocarbon resin tackifier. The composition is useful in preparing a heat-recoverable article that is used to provide a protective coating on the joints of a steel pipeline. Also provided is a single sleeve or two-sleeve system for application to the joints of a coated steel pipeline operating at temperatures up to 120°C
