Abstract:
An omnidirectional circularly polarized (CP) antenna resembling a bird nest is provided. A center feeding probe (monopole antenna) capable of emitting an omnidirectional linearly polarized (LP) radiation pattern is electrically coupled to dielectric parallelepipeds. The dielectric parallelepipeds are evenly spaced with uniform angular intervals that angularly surround the probe; effectively acting as a polarizer capable of converting the omnidirectional LP radiation pattern into an omnidirectional CP radiation pattern.
Abstract:
A laser projection system including one or more pluralities of laser sources, each plurality of laser sources emitting light having substantially a different predetermined wavelength in the visible range, a fiber optic laser beam combiner combining outputs of at least one of the pluralities of laser sources into one optical fiber, a fiber-optic delivery component coupled to the one optical fiber and one or more spatial light modulators, and one or more homogenizing optical elements, and one or more optical lens system for projecting the associated images on a screen.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to a method that involves reacting an azide with an alkyne in the presence of deuterated water and a copper-containing catalyst, thereby forming a deuterated 1,2,3-triazole.
Abstract:
An optic fibre sensor comprising an optic fibre (9) and a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) receptor (10) formed directly on said fibre (9), wherein: said polymer includes a fluorophore that fluoresces when exposed to a source of light, said MIP is selective for a particular drug of interest, and said fluorescence changes when said MIP is exposed to said drug of interest.
Abstract:
An electrode assembly includes a substantially porous element configured to be coupled to an electrode for delivery of electrical current to a patient in a neurostimulation procedure. The substantially porous material defining a contact surface, of which at least a portion contacts the patient during the neurostimulation procedure. A first insulating member is coupled to the substantially porous element and exposed at the contact surface to prevent a portion of the contact surface from contacting the patient to deliver the electrical current during the neurostimulation procedure.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to apparatus for mounting a wind turbine on a support mast, the apparatus comprising an inner sleeve member arranged to be disposed around the support mast; an outer sleeve member arranged to support the wind turbine, the outer sleeve member being concentrically mounted around the inner sleeve member; and wherein the outer sleeve member is arranged to be rotatable relative to the inner sleeve member.
Abstract:
Novel hybrid materials and fabrication methods thereof are provided. The novel hybrid materials can include a biodegradable polymer and a biodegradable metallic material. The hybrid material can also include a coupling agent between the biodegradable metallic material and the biodegradable polymer. A method of fabricating a hybrid material can include performing a surface treatment process on the biodegradable metallic material, and then either performing a solvent formation method or a thermal formation method.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to a method of preparing polyamide particles. The method include spray drying a solution containing a polyamide to form polyamide particles having an average diameter of between about 0.5 µm and about 10 µm and at least about 85% of the polyamide particles having a diameter distribution of no more than about 1.5 µm.
Abstract:
A fault-tolerant node for synchronous heterogeneous database replication and a method for performing a synchronous heterogenous database replication at such a node are provided. A processor executes a computer program to generate a series of database transactions to be carried out at the fault-tolerant node. The fault-tolerant node comprises at least two relational database management systems, each of which are different relational database management system products, each implementing snapshot isolation between concurrent transactions. Each system comprises a database and a database management component. For each database transaction, operation instructions are provided concurrently to each of the systems to carry out operations on their respective databases and to provide respective responses. The responses generated by the systems either comprise an operation result or an exception. Only one of the systems is configured with a NOWAIT exception function enabled, which returns an exception when it is detected that two or more concurrent transactions are attempting to modify the same data item. The other systems are configured with the NOWAIT exception function disabled. The fault-tolerant node detects that two or more concurrent transactions are attempting to modify the same data item, and ensures that all systems apply the same order of modification of the data item by the concurrent transactions.
Abstract:
An optical device that includes a metal film defining an aperture through the metal film, a plurality of first concentric ridges formed around the aperture on a first side of the metal film. Each pair of adjacent first concentric ridges are spaced apart by a first period, p1, and each pair of adjacent ones of the plurality of second concentric ridges are spaced apart by a second period, p2. In at least some instances, n1p1 is within 10% of n2p2, where n1 is an index of refraction of the material adjacent the first side of the metal film and n2 is an index of refraction of the material adjacent the second side of the metal film. The optical device optionally includes a plurality of apertures. In some instances, two or more, or even all, of the apertures have a plurality of concentric ridges formed around each of those apertures. In some instances, the metal film may be used as a polarizer or wavelength filter.
