Abstract:
A method for operating a speed control system of a vehicle having a plurality of wheels is provided. The method comprises receiving one or more electrical signals representative of vehicle-related information. The method further comprises determining, based on the one or more electrical signals representative of vehicle-related information, that one or more of the wheels of the vehicle have overcome an obstacle or are about to overcome an obstacle and that therefore a reduction in an applied drive torque to one or more of the wheels of the vehicle by a powertrain subsystem (applied drive torque) will be required to maintain the speed of the vehicle at a target set-speed of the speed control system. The method still further comprises automatically commanding the application of a retarding torque to one or more of the wheels of the vehicle to counteract the effect of an overrun condition in the powertrain subsystem from increasing the speed of the vehicle. A system for controlling the speed of a vehicle comprising an electronic control unit configured to perform the above- described methodology is also provided.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention provide a speed control system for a vehicle, comprising: means for automatically causing application of positive and negative torque to one or more wheels of a vehicle to cause a vehicle to travel in accordance with a target speed value v_target; means for controlling a rate of change of speed of a vehicle by application of positive and negative torque to one or more wheels; and means for receiving information relating to one or more of a Terrain Response Mode in which the vehicle is configured or an amount of drag imposed on a vehicle, the means for controlling the rate of change of speed comprises being configured to control the rate of change of speed in dependence at least in part on said one or more of a Terrain Response Mode in which the vehicle is configured and amount of drag imposed on a vehicle.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention provide a speed control system for a vehicle, comprising: torque control means for automatically causing application of positive and negative torque to one or more wheels of a vehicle to cause a vehicle to travel in accordance with a target speed value; and means for receiving information indicative of a gradient of a driving surface over which the vehicle is driving, the torque control means being configured to control the rate of change of the amount of torque applied to the one or more wheels, in order to attempt to maintain the vehicle traveling in accordance with the target speed value, in dependence at least in part on the gradient of the driving surface.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a control system for a motor vehicle, the system being operable in an automatic mode selection condition in which the system is configured to select automatically an appropriate system operating mode whereby the system assumes operation in said system operating mode, the system being further configured to allow activation of an automatic progress control function in which a speed of the vehicle over terrain is controlled automatically by the system, wherein when the automatic progress control function is active the system is configured automatically to suspend changes in the selected system operating mode.
Abstract:
Some embodiments of the invention provide a speed control system for a vehicle, comprising: torque control means for automatically causing application of positive and negative torque to one or more wheels of a vehicle to cause a vehicle to travel in accordance with a target speed value; and means for receiving information indicative of a gradient of a driving surface over which the vehicle is driving, the torque control means being configured to control the rate of change of the amount of torque applied to the one or more wheels in order to attempt to cause the vehicle to accelerate substantially from rest to a target speed value, the rate of change of the amount of torque being controlled by the torque control means in dependence at least in part on the received information indicative of the gradient of the driving surface.
Abstract:
Some embodiments of the present invention provide a speed control system for automatically controlling the speed of a vehicle in accordance with a target speed value, the system comprising: means for causing automatically a vehicle to travel at a predetermined speed value at least in part by controlling an amount of torque applied to one or more wheels of a vehicle by a powertrain; means for determining a recommended transmission gear ratio for a transmission of the powertrain at a given moment in time; means for providing an indication of the recommended transmission gear ratio to a user; and means for receiving a clutch actuation signal indicative of an actuation state of clutch means that is configured to connect the transmission to a torque drive source of the powertrain, wherein the system is configured automatically to control a speed of the torque drive source to achieve a speed determined in dependence at least in part on at least one predetermined parameter when a predetermined one or more conditions are met, the predetermined one or more conditions including the condition that the clutch actuation signal indicates that the actuation state of the clutch means is such that the torque drive source is at least partially disconnected from the transmission.
