A fiducial marker to be tracked by a surgical navigation system. The fiducial marker is to be affixed to an object during a surgical procedure. The fiducial marker including a casing for attachment to the object; a light emitting component attached to the casing; a power source within the casing; a signal receiver to receive a signal from the surgical navigation system; and control logic to control the light emitting component in response to the signal from the surgical navigation system. The object to-be-tracked may include a plurality of the fiducial markers arranged in geometric pattern, and the markers may include a first active fiducial marker having a first light emitting component that emits light having a first spectral bandwidth, and a second active fiducial marker having a second light emitting component that emits light having a second spectral bandwidth different from the first spectral bandwidth.
Abstract:
Ablation systems and methods of the present disclosure are directed toward delivering pulsed radiofrequency (RF) energy to target tissue. The pulsations of the RF energy, combined with cooling at a surface of the target tissue, can advantageously promote local heat transfer in the target tissue to form lesions having dimensions larger than those that can be safely formed in tissue using non-pulsed RF energy under similar conditions.

Catheter systems, tools and methods are disclosed for the selective and rapid application of DC voltage to drive irreversible electroporation, with the system controller configurable to apply voltages to an independently selected subsets of electrodes, such that voltages of one polarity are applied to a multiplicity of electrodes on a first medical device and voltages of the opposite polarity to a multiplicity of electrodes on a second medical device. The first and second medical devices can be epicardial catheters positioned such that their opposing distal tips are approximately aligned and whose segments with electrodes collectively wrap around the pulmonary veins.

The surgical instrument further includes a conductor arrangement (930, 932, 936, 944) that facilitates transfer of electrical power or current from a power source (200) which may be located in the housing or external to the housing to a distal portion of the elongated shaft assembly or to a surgical end effector coupled thereto. The surgical instrument may further include a travel limiting arrangement (950) for limiting the amount of rotary travel of the elongated shaft assembly relative to the housing to a predetermined range of rotary travel.

Among other things, uterine lavage is performed to withdraw at least 50% of in vivo fertilized preimplantation embryos produced after superovulation of a woman and artificial insemination using sperm of her sexual partner. After genetic diagnosis or sex determination or gene therapy, or any combination of any two or more of them, of the recovered embryos and selection of at least one of the embryos to be implanted, the selected embryos are returned to the woman for implantation in her uterus.
