Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung zur Dispergierung von Gas in eine Flüssigkeit. Die Vorrichtung weist eine Anzahl n an aufeinander folgenden Zonen Z 1 , Z 2 ,...,Z n mit statischen Mischelementen auf, wobei jede Zone Z i eine Länge L i und einen effektiven Durchmesser D i besitzt. Der auf das jeweilige Verhältnis L i /D i normierte mechanische Energieeintrag Et, der auf das Gas-Flüssigkeits-Gemisch wirkt, nimmt in Fließrichtung von Zone zu Zone zu. Dabei ist n eine ganze Zahl größer oder gleich 3 und i ein Index, der die ganzen Zahl von 1 bis zur Anzahl n der Zonen durchläuft. Die Erfindung betrifft ferner ein Verfahren zur Dispergierung von Gas in eine Flüssigkeit unter Verwendung der erfindungsgemäßen Vorrichtung.

A method for producing fatty acid alkyl esters from biolipids through transesterification and/or esterification reactions uses a flow-through cavitation device for generating cavitation bubbles in a fluidic reaction medium. The fluidic medium is passed through sequential compartments in the cavitation device having varying diameters and inner surface features to create localized reductions in fluid pressure thus vaporizing volatile alcohols and creating an increased surface area and optimized conditions for the reaction to occur at the gas-liquid interface around the bubbles.

The solution very rapidly becomes supersaturated, and the ultrasound can induce a very large number of nuclei for crystal growth. Small crystals, for example less than 5 μm, are formed that may be of a suitable sise for use in inhalers.

A mixing and dispersing apparatus (56) for emulsion ink in a printing press is disclosed. The apparatus includes a vessel (63) having walls defining an upper chamber (68) and a lower chamber (76). A motor (94) drives a shaft (96). The shaft also carries a rotor (108) disposed below the propeller. The rotor includes downwardly extending teeth (114) that are disposed adjacent to inner and outer stator walls (86, 92). The inner and outer stator walls are perforated by slots (90, 84) therein and are fixed with respect to the vessel. The propeller (100) mixes ink and fountain solution and propels the mixture downward toward the rotor (108), which shears and disperses the ink and fountain solution into the lower chamber (76), forming a suitably stable emulsion ink. The emulsion ink is then pumped to an ink distribution rail (60) for use of some of the emulsion ink for printing, with the remainder of the emulsion ink being recirculated to the mixing and dispersing apparatus (56).

A process for oxidation of ferrous ions in solution, and more particularly a process for improved base metal and/or uranium leaching from ores, concentrates or tailings using ferric ion as an oxidising agent. A reaction vessel (10) holds a ferrous ion-containing solution, for example, a copper sulphide leach slurry or concentrate. An agitator (12) may be provided to promote leaching of the base metal into solution. Some of the ferrous ion-containing solution is drawn off from the reaction vessel (10) and pumped through an in-line mixer (14) via a feed pump (16). Oxygen is injected into the reactor (14) to facilitate oxidation of the ferrous sulphate to form ferric sulphate. The ferric ion-containing solution is then recirculated back to the reaction vessel (10) where the ferric ions are reused in the dissolution of copper sulphide into soluble copper sulphate. The two processes of ferrous oxidation and metal leaching can be conducted either simultaneously or sequentially to effect recovery of copper, other base metals or uranium from ores, concentrates or tailings.

A device for making emulsions of water in heavy fuel oil comprises a containment body (2) in which at least an emulsion chamber (3) is made, and which comprises an inlet (4) in fluid communication with the emulsion chamber (3) and an outlet (5) also in fluid communication with the emulsion chamber (3), in use the inlet (4) being fed with a liquid mixture of water and heavy fuel oil and the outlet (5) supplying an emulsion of water in heavy fuel oil, in this way creating inside the emulsion chamber (3) a liquid flow from the inlet (4) to the outlet (5). A plurality of magnets (18) is distributed at least around the emulsion chamber (3) for creating a magnetic field inside the emulsion chamber (3), which also comprises a central zone (9), first liquid flow breaking means (10) positioned between the inlet (4) and the central zone (9), and second liquid flow breaking means (11) positioned between the central zone (9) and the outlet (5). A method for making the emulsions is also claimed.
