The invention relates to organic-inorganic hybrid nanofibres comprising two phases: - a mineral first phase comprising an open-pore structured mesoporous network; and - an organic second phase comprising an organic polymer, said organic phase being essentially absent from the inside of the pores of the structured mesoporous network. The invention further relates to a membrane and an electrode comprising said nanofibres, a fuel cell comprising said membrane and/or said electrode, and a method for preparing said nanofibres by electrically assisted extrusion.

The ceramic nanofibers may be used in a variety of applications not limited to reinforced composite materials (400), thermoelectric generators (600, 700) and high temperature particulate filters (1200).

The present invention relates to a method for producing a three-dimensional macroporous filament construct comprising interconnected microporous filaments showing a suitable surface roughness and microporosity. The method comprises the steps of: a) preparing a suspension comprising particles of a predetermined material, a liquid solvent, one or more binders and optionally one or more dispersants, b) depositing said suspension in the form of filaments in a predetermined three- dimensional pattern, preferably in a non-solvent environment, thereby creating a three-dimensional filament-based porous structure, c) inducing phase inversion, whereby said filaments are transformed from a liquid to a solid state, by exposing said filaments during the deposition of the filaments with a non-solvent vapour and to a liquid non-solvent, d) thermally treating the structure of step d) by calcining and sintering said structure. The invention further provides a three-dimensional macroporous filament construct comprising interconnected microporous filaments showing a specific surface roughness and microporosity. The invention also relates to various uses of the construct, including its use for the manufacture of a biomedical product, such as a synthetic bone implant or bone graft.

The present invention relates to applications of TiO2-containing, macro-sized nanostructures in the fields including photocatalysis, information writing-erasing- rewriting, microfiltration, controlled drug release, and tire making. In one aspect, the present invention relates to a method of photocatalytically decomposing organic pollutants. In one embodiment, the method includes the steps of mixing a solution containing organic pollutants and a plurality of TiCVcontaining, macro-sized nanostructures to form a mixture and exposing the mixture to UV irradiation to decompose the organic pollutants.

The invention relates to composites, comprising at least one hollow fibre made from a gas- or liquid-transporting ceramic material, the outer surface of which is in contact with the outer surface of the same or a different hollow fibre and the contact points are connected by sintering. Further composites comprise at least one hollow fibre made from gas- or liquid-transporting ceramic material and a connector element on at least one front face, for the introduction or removal of fluids, whereby the hollow fibres are connected to the connector element by means of sintering. The composites are suitable for obtaining gasses from gas mixtures.
