Abstract:
The present invention relates to compounds which are capable of exerting an inhibitory effect on the Na+ glucose cotransporter SGLT in order to hinder glucose and galactose absorption, as well as on lipase thus reducing dietary triglyceride metabolism, for use in the treatment of conditions which benefit therefrom (diabetes. Metabolic Syndrome, obesity, prevention of weight gain or aiding weight loss). These compounds comprise a non-absorbable, non-digestible polymer having a glucopyranosyl or galactopyranosyl or equivalent moiety stably and covalently linked thereto, said glucopyranosyl or galactopyranosyl moiety being able to occupy the glucose-binding pocket of a SGLT transporter.
Abstract:
A method of making modified konjac glucomannan flour that acts a gelling agent. The method comprises mixing the flour with an alkali-alcohol solution for sufficient time and at sufficient temperature to deacetylate the glucomannan. The modified flour can then be recovered, neutralized, and milled to obtain modified konjac flour that acts a gelling agent. The gelling agent forms gels at high temperature when mixed with water and heated to above an activation temperature, and mixed for a period of time. The gels are useful in a variety of food products.
Abstract:
Disclosed are compositions including dihydroxyalkyl substituted polygalactomannan, and the optional further substitution of such with cationic and/or hydrophobic moieties. Method of making such compositions is also disclosed as well as the use of such compositions in industrial applications, fabric laundering, and personal and household care.
Abstract:
A fast hydratable konjac flour has a glucomannan content of at least 70 weight percent, based on the total weight of the konjac flour, a median particle Equivalent Projected Circle Diameter, EQPC 50,3, of at least 110 micrometers, and a surface ratio S/S tot of not more than 0.08, wherein S is the surface of the konjac flour particles having a particle length LEFI of less than 40 micrometers and S tot is the total surface of the konjac flour particles.
Abstract:

Abstract:
Described herein are hemi-aminal ethers and thioethers of N -alkenyl cyclic compounds that may be produced through a reaction comprising: (A) at least one first reactant represented by a structure (I), wherein X is a functionalized or unfunctionalized C 1 -C 5 alkylene group optionally having one or more heteroatoms, and each R 1 , R 2 , and R 3 is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and functionalized and unfunctionalized alkyl groups optionally having one or more heteroatoms, and (B) at least one second reactant having at least one hydroxyl moiety or thiol moiety. The hemi-aminal ethers and thioethers of N -alkenyl cyclic compounds may comprise a polymerizable moiety, in which case they may be left as-is or used to create homopolymers or non-homopolymers, or they may not comprise a polymerizable moiety. A wide variety of formulations may be created using the hemi-aminal ethers and thioethers of N -alkenyl cyclic compounds, including personal care, oilfield, and construction formulations.
Abstract:
The invention relates to polysaccharide graft polymers useful for incorporation as benefit agents in laundry detergent and fabric treatment compositions, and their preparation. The invention also relates to substituted polysaccharides useful as macroinitiator intermediates for the preparation of the polysaccharide graft polymers, and the preparation of the macroinitiators. The polysaccharide graft polymers may be used, for example, to impart soil release and/or fabric care benefits to laundry detergent or fabric treatment compositions.
