Abstract:
A lubricant composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and an N-hydrocarbyl-substituted γ -aminoester or γ -aminothioester, wherein the N-hydrocarbyl substituent comprises a hydrocarbyl group of at least 3 carbons atoms, with a branch at the 1 or 2 position of the hydrocarbyl chain, provides exhibits basicity and good seal performance.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device by using a lubricating composition containing a thiadiazole- functionalised dispersant. The invention further provides a lubricating composition suitable for the mechanical device containing a thiadiazole- functionalised dispersant and a polysulphide.
Abstract:
A lubricating composition providing excellent anti-wear protection for corrosion-resistant materials which comprises a major amount of a synthetic ester base oil, and a minor amount of a molybdenum compound and an anti-wear additive selected from the group consisting of 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives as an anti-wear additive, the reaction products of 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole dimers and poly(ether)glycols, and 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole monomer and mixtures thereof. Also described is a method for imparting anti-wear properties to a corrosion resistant material, comprising using the lubricating composition of the invention.
Abstract:
The invention concerns fuel or lubricant additives based on the reaction products of an ethylenically unsaturated poly-1-alkene derived from one or more 1-alkenes with 3 to 24 carbon atoms and 0 to 50% by wt. of ethene, as well as a method of producing the additives and fuel and additive compositions containing such additives.
Abstract:
A lubricating oil composition for high-speed gears, particularly those having a peripheral speed of at least 10 m/sec, prepared by compounding a lube base oil having a percentage CA of 5 or less and desirably a nitrogen content of 50 ppm or less and a sulfur content of 50 ppm or less with additives based on, respectively, sulfur, phosphorus and nitrogen in such amounts that the element ratio, 100 N/(S+P), in the composition ranges from 4 to 10 by weight. The composition serves to develop satisfactory hypoid gear performance, is reduced in sludge formation, and can lengthen the service life of oil seal used in the high-speed and high-temperature rotating parts.

The present invention relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device by using a lubricating composition containing a thiadiazole- functionalised dispersant. The invention further provides a lubricating composition suitable for the mechanical device containing a thiadiazole- functionalised dispersant and a polysulphide.
Abstract:
New fluorinated compounds of formula (I), where the variables are as defined in the claims, and method for their preparation. These compounds are used particularly but not exclusively as fluorinated surfactants or as solid lubricants to increase the characteristics of slipperiness and oil-hydro-repellence of surfaces that constitute hulls of watercraft and the like and/or their cladding materials, sleighs, chutes, bases of skis and the like. These compounds having the general formula (I) can be used as such or in solution, pure or in a mixture with other similar or different fluorinated compounds.
Abstract:
A lubricating oil for internal combustion engines, comprising a base oil comprising a mineral oil and/or a synthetic lubricating oil and 0.005 to 0.2 % by weight, in terms of molybdenum (Mo), of molybdenum oxysulfide dithiocarbamate represented by chemical formula (1), wherein R1 or R1 and R3 represent each a branched aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 14 or more carbon atoms and R2 to R4 or R2 and R4 represent each an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 4 or more carbon atoms.
Abstract:
Nitrogen containing carboxylic compounds useful in reducing hydrogen sulfide are described herein. The compositions of the invention also desirably contain an alkali or alkaline earth metal containing compound.
