Abstract:
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to carpet and carpet tile. In one aspect, the carpet includes (a) a primary backing which has a face and a back surface, (b) a plurality of fibers attached to the primary backing and extending from the face of the primary backing and exposed at the back surface of the primary backing, (c) an adhesive backing, (d) an optional secondary backing adjacent to the adhesive backing, and (e) at least one non-chlorinated, non-polyvinyl butyral thermoplastic polymer or composition having a specific growth tension at 4OC and a specific residual stress at 25% strain. Additional steps and procedures include washing or scouring the primary backing and fibers prior to the extrusion step, and utilizing implosion agents. The preferred thermoplastic polymer is olefin block copolymer and more preferable ethylene based block interpolymers. The constructions and methods described herein are particularly suited for making tufted, broad-loom carpet having improved abrasion resistance.
Abstract:
A synthetic turf is made by providing a tufted material having a plurality of bundles of fibers extending outwardly from a front side thereof; providing a hot melt adhesive having a ring and ball softening point and heating the adhesive to a temperature corresponding to at least its ring and ball softening point; and applying the thus heated hot melt adhesive to a back side of the tufted material, wherein the adhesive cools to a temperature substantially below its ring and ball softening point after it has been applied to the back side of the tufted material. The thus treated material is preferably passed directly against and around a heated drum maintained at a temperature substantially corresponding to the ring and ball softening point of the hot melt adhesive to render the adhesive in a sufficiently plastic state such that the adhesive substantially penetrates into interstices of the bundles of fibers to substantially bind together each of the fibers of each of the bundles.
Abstract:
A method for binding a greige carpet (1) and a secondary backing material (2) using a hot melt adhesive (3) is disclosed. A heated application roll (4) may be provided and the secondary backing material (2) may be contacted with the hot melt adhesive (3) and greige carpet (1) and pressed against the heated application roll (4).
Abstract:
A layered cushioned composite (110A) such as a carpet or carpet tile which in at least one embodiment incorporates a layer of stabilizing material (158) and a layer of adhesive material (160) below a primary carpet (112) and above a layer of compressed particle, recycled and/or rebond foam or cushioning material (178) and having special applicability to the residential market, especially the residential do-it-yourself market. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, the residential carpet tile has a high twist frieze face, a polyurethane rebond foam cushion, and a non-square shape providing for interlocking with adjacent or abutting carpet tiles.
Abstract:
A liquid-impermeable, vapor-permeable floor covering, such as a carpet or rug, is provided. In one embodiment of the floor covering (10), it has an upper or top tufted carpeting layer (16) that includes a primary substrate (26) and tufts (32, 34) of yarn (36) extending above the primary substrate (26). A composite secondary backing (15) is located below the primary substrate (26) and is bonded to the carpeting layer (16) by adhesive layer (38). A breathable polymeric film (12) which is liquid-impermeable and vapor-permeable is located below and bonded to a secondary substrate (18) by adhesive layer (23). A method of manufacturing the floor covering (10) includes adhesively bonding an upper surface (14) of a microporous, liquid impermeable, vapor permeable film (12) to a lower surface (22) of a secondary substrate (18), thereby forming a composite secondary backing (15); and then bonding an upper surface (20) of the composite secondary backing (15) to the lower surface (30) of a primary substrate (26) with a hot melt adhesive (38).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a woven textile surface covering (10) and an accompanying method of preparation. The covering comprises a first layer (15) having a decorative surface and a black surface which is formed by weaving warps yarns (35) and weft yarns (40) that have interstices therebetween. A resin composition layer (20) penetrates between the interstices to wet, penetrate and encapsulate at least a portion of the warns yarns (35) and weft yarns (40) of the woven layer (15). The resin composition layer (20) includes a cross-linking agent and can be in plastisol, hot melt or latex form.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a method for manufacturing an optionally laminated textile product, the method comprising the steps of: a) providing a first sheet with yarns fastened thereto where the first sheet has a first surface and a second surface and the yarns extend from the first surface of the first sheet, b) heating the second surface of the first sheet thereby at least partly melting the yarns fastened to the first sheet to bond the yarns to the first sheet; c) exposing the second surface of the first sheet to pressure; d) optionally imparting a mechanical force on the molten fraction of the yarns in a direction parallel to the surface of the first sheet; e) applying hot melt adhesive to the second surface of the first sheet; and f)optionally applying a dimensionally stable second sheet to the second surface of the first sheet; with the proviso that where the optional step (f) is absent then step (d) is not optional.
