Abstract:
A portable cart (11) for transporing and dispensing heated pavement repair materials (101) which is capable of being moved and operated by one person, the cart applying a heated asphaltic/polymeric binder material. The cart comprises a heating chamber (13) having an enclosed interior (91) and providing dry radiant heat and a containment chamber (59) located within the enclosed interior of the heating chamber (13), the containment chamber (59) narrowing towards on opening (67). Fuel gas is used to provide dry, radiant heat to the road repair materials to create a fluid material to apply to the surface to repair. The cart (11) further comprises a hand operated gating means (31) controlling gravity-dispensed material within the ocntainment chamber (59). The cart is ideal for repairing cracks and filing expansion channels in concrete and/or asphalt roadways and driveways.
Abstract:
Methods, compositions and systems for prolonging the lives of transportation surfaces, including pavement, runways, bridges and parking structures include chemically protecting the transportation surfaces. Chemical protection may be accompanied by physical alteration of the transportation surface, which may enhance one or both of a microtexture and a macrotexture of the transportation surface.
Abstract:
Thermoplastic compositions useful for sealing longitudinal joints of substrates, for example, roadways and pavement, are provided herein. Formulations including the composition and methods of using the thermoplastic composition to seal longitudinal joints are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for applying heated sealants, such as molten polymeric material, to surfaces such as for filling cracks in pavement surfaces. Aspects of the invention include block cutting assembly, heated dispensing hose, and crack filling applicator head. By way of example, the block cutting assembly comprises a ram device for driving sealant blocks against a heated cutting member which severs the blocks to speed liquefaction within the heated sealant chamber. An associated enclosure incorporates a loading door preferably configured for operation in response to the position of the ram device. The heated dispensing hose may comprise a heating element running through the interior of the hose to heat sealants as they pass through the hose. The crack filling applicator head comprises a dispensing tube upon which a sealing chamber is coupled for retaining a quantity of liquid sealant proximal to the pavement surface being filled.
Abstract:

Abstract:
Apparatus for applying a material to a road surface comprises a material container (102) which can be charged with unmelted material, a sleigh base which contacts the road surface and which can be moved in a forward direction over that surface along the length of a crack which is to be repaired, the sleigh base being at a lower elevation than the material container and including a material distribution shoe (130) which comprises a pair of rearwardly divergent members (136) defining a gap between them, the width of the gap increasing in a rearward direction, and means (110) for applying heat to the material to cause it to melt and for directing the molten material into the gap between the divergent members of the distribution shoe.
Abstract:
A device (10, 12) for the spot application of molten asphaltic composition to spot locations comprising a rod of solid, modified bitumen adapted for heating an end thereof. The softened or molten composition at the end can easily and conveniently be delivered to spot locations.
