The invention relates to a method for producing electrochromic devices, in particular that having a large working surface area and which does not produce a volumetric shrinkage and can operate during a long maintenance of electrocoloured state of an electrochromic compound, high control voltages and polarity inversion. The inventive electrochromic device comprises at least two electrodes (1, 2), at least one of them being optically transparent. A closed sealed space is formed between said electrodes and filled with the electrochromic compound which is embodied in the form of a solid-like film. The inventive method for producing the electrochromic device consists in prefabricating an initial electrochromic compound in the form of a dispersed electrochromic system which contains at least a suspension and/or colloid. The dispersed medium of said system is embodied in the form of an electrochromic solution containing a liquid solvent, cathode and anode components, a dispersed phase being embodied in the form of a finely dispersed polymer. Afterwards, the initial electrochromic compound is deaerated, thereby eliminating dissolved oxygen and air introduced by said finely dispersed polymer, and is used for filling the space between the electrodes.

Disclosed is a method for grafting a polymer onto the surface of a carbonate material with carboxyl, amine, and/or hydroxyl functions on its surface. Said material is placed in suspension in a solution including the polymer to be grafted, which has a carboxyl, amine, and/or hydroxyl function, said solution also being comprised of a polymer solvent. A process which stimulates the dehydration into a carboxyl function of an amine and/or hydroxyl function is then performed, and the polymer is grafted onto the carbonate material using ester or amide links. The invention can be used in the cathode or naode of an electrochemical generator, in polymer materials with low polar properties, in ink, and also as a conductive coating on flexible plastic used as an electrical contact, as electromagnetic shielding, or as static protection.

Electrochromic compositions for use in devices with electrically controlled absorption of light such as light filters of variable optical density, light emission modulators, and information image displays. The described electrochromic compositions may be used, for example, in construction industry for creating variably light-transmitting coatings of buildings for controlling indoor microclimate by dynamically regulating the flow of natural light. Specifically, described is an exemplary organic electrochromic composition that is based on biocompatible and biodegradable components and is characterized by an increased service life as well as a high rate of light-transmission change. The described electrochromic compositions may be prepared in a wide range of light-absorption spectra and coating colors.

An electrode construction for incorporation into an electrochromic display device with a substrate; an electrochromic material applied to the substrate in a spatially resolved manner. The electrochromic material is (a) applied to the substrate with a resolution of greater than about 75 dpi and (b) the spatial resolution is obtained by a non-photolithographic method. The substrate may have a mesoporous morphology. Printing methods such as ink-jet printing may be used. Other materials such as masking materials, charge storing materials, complementary electrochromic materials and the mesoporous material itself may be set down by ink-jet methods. The electrodes construction may be included in electrochromic devices. The resolution obtained is high and devices incorporating these materials may be addressable.
