Provided is a hollow fiber with a structure including a cavity positioned at the center of the hollow fiber, macro-pores present in the periphery of the cavity, and meso-pores and pico-pores present in the periphery of the macro-pores, wherein the pico-pores are connected to each other in a three-dimensional manner to form a three-dimensional network. The hollow fiber contains a polymer derived from a polyamic acid, wherein the polyamic acid includes repeating units prepared from aromatic diamines and dianhydrides containing at least one functional group present in an ortho-position relative to an amine group.

The present invention discloses a new type of polyimide membranes including hollow fiber and flat sheet membranes with high permeances for air separations and a method of making these membranes. The new polyimide hollow fiber membranes have O2 permeance higher than 300 GPU and O2/N2 selectivity higher than 3 at 60°C under 308 kPa for O2/N2 separation. The new polyimide hollow fiber membranes also have CO2 permeance higher than 1000 GPU and single-gas selectivity for CO2/CH4 higher than 20 at 50°C under 791 kPa for CO2/CH4 separation.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an artificial lawn, in particular for an artificial grass sports field comprising an artificial mat built up of a carrier to which artificial glass fibres are attached. The object of the invention is to provide a new type of artificial lawn, which in particular obviates the need to use an infill material, without this having an adverse effect on the playing characteristics of the sports field. According to the invention, the carrier is at least in part provided with at least one additional material component, which additional material component imposes a permanent volume increase on said part of the carrier under the influence of an external stimulus after being provided in the artifical mat. The use of an additional material component, which imposes a permanent volume increase on at least a part of the carrier, makes it possible to create an artificial lawn having an additional damping property, which has a positive effect on the playing characteristics of the sports field, such as the absorption of shocks, the restitution of energy and the vertical deformation and which furthermore reduces the number of player injuries.

A water vapour transport membrane comprises a nanofibrous layer disposed on a macroporous support layer, the nanofibrous layer coated with a water permeable polymer. A method for making a water vapour transport membrane comprises forming a nanofibrous layer on a macroporous support layer and applying a water permeable polymer to the nanofibrous layer. The water permeable polymer can be applied for so that the nanofibrous layer is substantially or partially filled with the water permeable polymer, or so that the coating forms a substantially continuous layer on one surface of the nanofibrous layer. In some embodiments of the method, the nanofibrous layer is formed by electro-spinning at least one polymer on at least one side of the porous support layer. In some embodiments, the support layer is formable and the method further comprises forming a three-dimensional structure from the water vapour transport membrane, for example, by compression molding, pleating or corrugating.

The invention includes a process for separating CO2 from natural gas including: contacting a mixture of CO2 and natural gas with a first side of a carbon membrane in a manner to cause a portion of the mixture to pass through the carbon membrane to a permeate side. The resulting mixture on the permeate side becomes enriched in CO2 over that of the mixture on the first side. The carbon membrane includes an asymmetric hollow filamentary carbon membrane, including a partial carbonization product of an asymmetric hollow filament including an aromatic imide polymer material. The carbon membrane is at least 95 weight percent carbon, and has a dense layer located in the outside surface portion of the hollow filamentary membrane and a porous base layer continued from the dense layer and located in the inside portion of the hollow filamentary membrane. The contacting in step occurs at a pressure of at least about 200 psia.
