Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention relate to sizing compositions for glass fibers, fiber glass strands, and composites reinforced with fiber glass strands. In one embodiment, a sizing composition for glass fibers comprises a polyether carbamate. In another embodiment, such sizing compositions further comprise an alkylsilane. In yet other embodiments, such sizing compositions further comprise an aminofunctional siloxane. In an embodiment of the present invention, a sizing composition for glass fibers comprises a polyether carbamate, an alkylsilane, and an aminofunctional siloxane.
Abstract:
The present invention provides sizing compositions and methods of using the same for glass fibers used in reinforced polymeric composites produced by reactive processing techniques.
Abstract:
A device for treatment of wounds using reduced pressure, said device comprising -a pump (7) -a reservoir (6) connected to said pump for collecting exudate from a wound (1), -an inlet to the reservoir (6) for connecting the reservoir with the wound (1) so as to allow the pump (7) to expose the wound to the reduced pressure, a wound pad (2) to be arranged in the wound cavity and a sealing (3) covering the wound and said wound pad, The wound pad (2) consistof an open-cell polyurethane foam which is fully impregnated with a soft hydrophobic silicone gel, and that the foam has a hardness of 1.0-6.0 kPa measured according to ISO 3386-1 at 40% compression. The invention also concerns such a wound pad to be usedwith an absorbent member. In addition the invention concerns a method for manufacturing the wound pad.
Abstract:
A sizing composition for reinforcement fibers that includes a cationic modified polyurethane dispersion, one or more silane coupling agents, and at least one lubricant is provided. The cationic modified polyurethane dispersion includes a dual end-capped polyurethane selected from a silane-terminated polyurethane, a ketoxime-terminated polyurethane, or a hybrid silane/ketoxime-terminated polyurethane where one end of the polyurethane is terminated with a silane group and the opposing end is terminated with a ketoxime group. The size composition is applied to reinforcement fibers and formed into chopped strand, wet-laid mats that can be used for a variety of purposes, including roofing products. Chopped strand mats formed from fibers sized with the inventive sizing composition maintains or improves the dry tear strengths and wet strengths compared to chopped strand mats made from fibers sized with a commercial sizing composition that does not contain a modified cationic polyurethane dispersion (e.g., SPUD).
Abstract:
A sizing composition that permits in-line chopping and drying of reinforcement fibers for reinforcing thermoset resins is provided. The size composition includes at least one coupling agent and one or more blocked polyurethane film forming agents. The blocking agent preferably de-blocks at a temperature that permits simultaneous or nearly simultaneous de-blocking and curing of the polyurethane film former. The sized fiber strands (12) may be chopped to form chopped strand segments and dried in a fluidized bed oven, such as a Cratec? drying oven (46), in-line. The chopped fiber strands may then be used in a bulk molding compound and molded into a reinforced composite article. Chopping the glass fibers in-line lowers the manufacturing costs for products produced from the sized fiber bundles (10). Further, because the reinforcement fibers can be chopped and dried at a much faster rate with the inventive size composition compared to conventional off-line chopping processes, productivity is increased.
Abstract:
A microcapsule comprising a core containing a hydrophobic liquid or wax and a polymeric shell formed from: i) 1 to 20% by weight of polymerisable silane compound, ii) 1 to 94% by weight of hydrophobic mono functional ethylenically unsaturated monomer, iii) 5 to 98% by weight of polyfunctional ethylenically unsaturated monomer, and iv) 0 to 60% by weight of other mono functional monomer(s), wherein components (i), (ii), (iii) and (iv) total 100%, and in which the microcapsule also includes a hydrophilic polymer which is covalently bonded to the microcapsule. The invention includes a process for the manufacture of particles and the use of particles in artic les, such as fabrics, and coating compositions, especially for textiles.
