Abstract: The invention provides a biaxially oriented film comprising a polymer composition having a density 954 to 970 kg/m³ measured according to ISO 1183, and an MFR2 of 0.5 to 2.0 g/10 min, measured according to ISO 1133, wherein said composition comprises: (i) 90 to 99 wt%, relative to the total weight of the polymer composition, of a multimodal high density polyethylene (HDPE), wherein the multimodal HDPE has a density in the range of 945 to 970 kg/m³ measured according to ISO 1183, an MFR2 of 0.1 to 3.0 g/10 min according to ISO 1133 and a molecular weight distribution (MWD) of 5 to 25, and wherein the multimodal HDPE comprises at least two fractions: (A) 30 to 70 wt%, relative to the total weight of the multimodal HDPE, of a lower molecular weight fraction being a polyethylene with a density in the range of 955 to 980 kg/m³ measured according to ISO 1183 and an MFR2 of 100 to 1000 g/10 min measured according to ISO 1133; and (B) 30 to 70 wt%, relative to the total weight of the multimodal HDPE, of a higher molecular weight fraction being a polyethylene with a density in the range of 940 to 960 kg/m³ measured according to ISO 1183 and an MFR2 of 0.0001 to 1.0 g/10 min measured according to ISO 1133; and (ii) 1 to 10 wt%, relative to the total weight of the polymer composition, of a hydrocarbon resin.

Abstract: A new transparent ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) nanoporous filter for virus removal or small particles removal with extremely high filtration efficiency and the ability to block submicron airborne particles by a sieving mechanism is provided. This novel nanoporous filter advantageously combines extremely high transmittance for visible light and ultraviolet light, reusability after cleaning or disinfection by ultraviolet irradiation or simple washing, a customizable sieving pore size ranging from a few nanometers to 500 nanometers, and the ability to carry bactericidal, virucidal or other reagents or particles on the nano or micro scale.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are physically crosslinked, closed cell continuous multilayer foam structures that include a coextruded foam layer containing at least one of polypropylene and polyethylene and a crosslinked, coextruded cap layer containing at least one of polypropylene and polyethylene. The multilayer foam structure can be obtained by coextruding a multilayer structure comprising at least one foam composition layer and at least one cap composition layer, irradiating the coextruded structure with ionizing radiation, and continuously foaming the irradiated structure.

Abstract: A process for producing tactile and sealing features on flexible films (40). The temperature of resin (80) is raised until it melts, but below its flash point. Wetting hot roll cylinder (10) with the resin (80) in negative cells (14) and transferring to positive textures (24) in cylinder (20). Transferring part of the thermo resin (80) on cylinder (20) to coacting cylinder (30) and passing a continuous flexible film (40) through coacting hot cylinder (20) and cold cylinder (30). The control of the temperature differential between cylinder (20) and film (40) allows the maximum transfer of resin (80) to form tactile structures. Sealable print areas are also created in film (40) that are particularly useful for packaging applications.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to polyethylene blends, films thereof, and methods thereof. In at least one embodiment, a polymer blend includes a first polyethylene having a density of about 0.94 g/cm3 to about 0.97 g/cm3 and a melt index of about 0.1 g/10min to about 10 g/10min. The blend includes a second polyethylene comprising at least 80 wt% ethylene derived-units. The second polyethylene has a density of about 0.918 g/cm3 to about 0.945 g/cm3, a number average molecular weight (Mn) of about 10,000 g/mol to about 20,000 g/mol, a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of about 75,000 g/mol to about 300,000 g/mol, a melt index (2.16 kg) of about 0.1 g/10min to about 5 g/10min, a high load melt index (21.6 kg) of about 25 g/10min to about 80 g/10min, and a melt index ratio of about 10 to about 50.

Abstract: Methods for processing HDPE recyclates including, but not limited to, polyethylene and polypropylene and compositions therefrom are provided. HDPE recyclate can be visbroken to improve processing characteristics and/or devolatilized to remove waste byproducts to produce processed HDPE recyclates. Processed HDPE recyclates are compounded with pre-consumer polyolefins to produce blend compositions having acceptable or even improved processing characteristics. Such pre-consumer polyolefins can also be visbroken to further tailor processing characteristics of such polymer blends. A combination of extruders and/or extruder zones can be used at the same or different locations for visbreaking and/or compounding of both HDPE recyclate and/or pre-consumer polyolefins.

Abstract: Catalytic compositions for depolymerizing polyolefin-based waste material into useful petrochemical products and methods of use are described. The compositions are a composite of at least one zeolite catalyst with one or more co-catalyst(s) that is a solid inorganic material. These composite catalysts, along with heat, are used to both increase the depolymerization reaction rate of the feed streams and suppress poisoning effects of non-polyolefin polymers that may be present. This results in a shorter residence time in the depolymerization unit and more efficient process.
