The invention relates to novel metal complexes for optical data carriers, whereby the latter is preferably a transparent substrate which is, optionally already covered with one or several reflective layers. A light-inscriptible information layer is disposed on the surface thereof, in addition to, optionally, one or several reflective layers and, optionally, a protective layer or another substrate or a covering layer which is inscriptible or readable with blue, red or infrared light, preferably laser light. The information layer contains a light-absorbing compound and, optionally, a binding agent. The invention is characterised in that the at least said metal complex is used as a light-absorbing compound.

Disclosed are novel colorant compounds which contain one or more ethylenically-unsaturated (vinyl), photopolymerizable radicals which may be copolymerized (or cured) with ethylenically-unsaturated monomers to produce colored compositions such as colored acrylic coatings and polymers, e.g., coatings and polymers produced from acrylate and methacrylate esters, colored polystyrenes, and similar colored polymeric materials derived from other ethylenically-unsaturated monomers. The present invention also pertains to processes for the preparation of certain of the photopolymerizable colorant compounds.

A novel colorant compound is provided which is the addition product of an organic chromophore having at least one reactive hydroxyl or amine substituent, a polyisocyanate, and a carboxylic acid, sulfonic acid, or salt of either thereof. The polyisocyanate, added in a molar excess relative to the number of such reactive substituents, reacts with the reactive hydroxyl or amine groups to provide terminal isocyanate groups. Subsequently, the carboxylic acid or salt thereof, also added in an amount excessive in relation to the number of terminal isocyanate groups, reacts therewith to form urethane moieties on the colorant. Such a compound provides excellent ink compositions upon dilution and are very soluble within all the standard ink diluents. Furthermore, such colorants provide good jettability, waterfastness, washfastness, and the like, within ink-jet applications on various types of printing substrates. A method for producing such a colorant and specifically printed substrates colored therewith is also provided.
