The present invention relates to a chiral spiro-pyridylamidophosphine ligand compound, synthesis method therefor and application thereof. The chiral spiro-pyridylamidophosphine compound is a compound having a structure of Formula (I), a racemate or optical isomer thereof, or a catalytically acceptable salt thereof, and is mainly characterized by having a chiral spiro-dihydro-indene skeleton in its structure. The chiral spiro-pyridylamidophosphine compound may be synthesized with optical active 7-diaryl/alkylphosphino-7'-amino-1,1'-spiro-dihydro-indene or substituted 7-diaryl/alkylphosphino-7'-amino-1,1'-spiro-dihydro-indene having a spiro-skeleton as chiral starting material. The chiral spiro-pyridylamidophosphine compound may be used as a chiral ligand in asymmetric hydrogenation of a carbonyl compound catalyzed by iridium, in which the reaction activity is very high, the amount of the catalyst may be 0.0001 mol%, and the enantioselectivity of the reaction is up to 99.9%ee.

A method for oxidizing carbon adsorbable organic compounds in a controlled manner within a bed of activated carbon. The bed of activated carbon is exposed to a source of molecular oxygen, such as air, and is controlled within a temperature range whereby the molecular oxygen is slowly oxidizing the activated carbon. Under this controlled set of conditions, the activated carbon will oxidize organic compounds present within the bed of activated carbon. This technique has widespread versatility for the controlled destruction of organic vapors and liquids by activated carbon and applications for the regeneration of spent activated carbons containing previously adsorbed organic compounds.

A catalytic transfer hydrogenation process is provided. The catalyst employed in the process is a metal hydrocarbyl complex which is coordinated to defined bidentate ligands substituted with at least one group selected from an optionally substituted sulphonated hydrocarbyl group, a sulphonated perhalogenated hydrocarbyl group, or an optionally substituted sulphonated heterocyclyl group. Preferred metals include rhodium, ruthenium and iridium. Preferred bidentate ligands are diamines and aminoalcolols, particularly those comprising chiral centres. The hydrogen donor is advantageously a secondary alcohol or a mixture of thiethylamine and formic acid. The process can be employed to transfer hydrogenate ketones and imines, which are preferably prochiral. Catalysts for use in such a process are also provided.

New 9-anthrylalkyl compounds having the general formula wherein R is hydrogen or an alkyl group, whereby, however, not more than one of the groups R is an alkyl group; R₁ is hydrogen, lower alkyl, halogen or nitro; n is an integer of from 1 to 7, whereby ,however, the total number of carbon atoms in the group -CHR-(CHR) n - does not exceed 8; and X is halogen, an azide group or a succinimidyl group. The new compounds are prepared from 9-anthrylalcohols which are reacted with a compound X-CO-X wherein X is a halogen, and then optionally with compounds giving azide or succinimidyl group. The compounds are used as derivatization reagents for separation and detection purposes. Intermediates for preparation of the above defined 9-anthrylalkyl compounds wherein one R is an alkyl group are 9-anthrylalcohols with the group -CHR-(CHR) n -OH, wherein one R is an alkyl group.
