The invention provides a material derived from algae (e.g. of the genus Chlorella) for the prevention or amelioration of plant-induced enteritis in fish. The algae- derived material is preferably intact or ruptured cells of and/or a cell fraction of the said algae. Also provided are fish feeds comprising said algae-derived material for the prevention or amelioration of plant-induced enteritis in fish, as well as such feeds in combination with an enteritis-causing plant material, which may comprise a reduced fishmeal content and/or enhanced plant ingredient content relative to conventional fish feeds.

The present invention relates to a method for identifying a pepsin resistant alpha amylase enzyme for use in a feed supplement comprising: i) providing an alpha amylase enzyme; ii) admixing said alpha amylase with com based feed and buffer solution comprising a pepsin concentration of 9000 U/ml at pH 3, 40° C., 500 rpm for al least 120 minutes and analysing alpha amylase activity on said alpha amylase compared to a control sample; wherein said control sample differs in that no pepsin is present during incubation; and iii) selecting an alpha amylase enzyme which substantially maintains alpha amylase activity under the assay conditions; feed supplements and feed stuffs comprising a pepsin resistant alpha amylase and the use of pepsin resistant alpha amylases in feed.

It is an object of the invention to increase the content of omega 3 fatty acids in carp meat to improve its nutritive properties and to achieve a better effect in prevention and treatment of many diseases of civilization. This effect is achieved by a feed comprising a mixture containing colza cake in the amount from 12 to 20% by weight, extruded linseed in the amount from 10 to 20% by weight, cereals in the amount from 56 to 72% by weight, soya grout in the amount from 5 to 10% by weight, limestone in the amount from 1 to 2% by weight, premiw for carps in the amount up to 1% by weight and a stabilizing agent in the amount up to 0,5% by weight. the mixture can be added by linseed oil and/or rape oil and:or echium oil from the seeds of Echium plantagineum . The carp receives the above described supplementary feed in the ponds with a lower stocking density, where the half of the total increase of carp is formed by the natural food of plankton and bentons. The clean the meat and to improve the composition of fats the carp is maintained in post-harvest live-tanks. The reserve fat from the abdomen part characteristic for less valuable fats is removed when filleting.

A method is described for improving the nutritional value of a foodstuff comprising a source of myo-inositol hexakisphosphate by feeding the foodstuff in combination with a phytase expressed in yeast. The method comprises the step of feeding the animal the foodstuff in combination with a phytase expressed in yeast wherein the phytase can be selected from the group consisting of AppA1, AppA2 and a site-directed mutant of AppA. The invention also enables reduction of the feed to weight gain ratio and an increase bone mass and mineral content of an animal. A foodstuff and a feed additive comprising AppA2 or a site-directed mutant of AppA are also described.

The formulation is prepared by dispersing all the solid components in a solution, with or without a vacuum, and cooling the solution to a temperature above its freezing temperature. The methods include a primary drying step of the formulation at a desired temperature and time period, and an accelerated secondary drying step under maximum vacuum and elevated temperature, to achieve a final desirable water activity of the dry material.

A process for recovering a protein-containing fermentation agent, comprising (i) forming an aqueous mixture of an organic material and a protein-containing fermentation agent capable of fermenting the organic material to produce ethanol, (ii) fermenting the aqueous mixture to produce ethanol, (iii) recovering from the fermented aqueous mixture an ethanol stream which is rich in ethanol and a co-product stream comprising unfermented organic material, fermentation agent and an aqueous solution of dissolved solids in water, (iv) subjecting the co-product stream to a first separation stage to recover a first stream rich in the unfermented organic material and a second stream rich in the fermentation agent suspended in the aqueous solution, and (v) subjecting the second stream to a second separation step, capable of recovering suspended solids from a liquid, to recover a third stream rich in the fermentation agent and a fourth stream rich in the aqueous solution. The invention also relates to a new yeast composition obtainable from the process.
