A composite structure comprises a fiber-containing layer, such as a layer of paperboard or other layer having fibers from natural and/or synthetic sources, and a mineral-containing layer covering the fiber-containing layer. The mineral-containing layer is substantially continuously bonded to the fiber-containing layer along the surface of the fiber-containing layer and provide a printing surface. The fiber-containing layer and mineral-containing layer can be shaped, sized, and manufactured such that the composite structure formed therefrom is capable of being machined to form a storage article. The composite structure further has tensile strength and other characteristics that allow it to be readily machined into desired storage article forms, such as box, carton, and other forms.

Described herein are laminate structures with enhanced sound-damping properties and mechanical properties. The laminates are composed of an interlayer structure disposed between a first glass substrate and a second glass substrate, wherein the interlayer is composed of a polymer layer designed such that sound attenuation or damping by the laminate is optimized. The laminates described herein may be used in vehicles or architectural panels. In one or more embodiments, the laminate may be disposed in an opening of a vehicle body. Where the vehicle body is an automobile, the laminate could be used as a windshield, a side window, sunroof or rear windshield. The body of some embodiments may include railcar body, or an airplane body. In other embodiments, the laminate may be used in architectural panels, which may include a window, an interior wall panel, a modular furniture panel, a backsplash, a cabinet panel, or an appliance panel.

By preparing a polyimide film with a face at the support side and subjected to a surface treatment; subjecting at least one of a face of the support and the face of the polyimide film which are opposite to each other to a patterning treatment using a coupling agent to form a satisfactorily bondable part and an easily releasable part which differ in adhesion/peel strength; subsequently, superposing the support and the polyimide film to be subjected to a pressurizing/heating treatment and to be bonded to each other; subjecting the surface of the polyimide film to an organic alkali treatment; and then, applying a polyamic acid solution free from a slip agent ingredient, drying the coating film and imidizing the film, a layered product having a structure of at least three layers in which at least one layer contains a slip agent material and both surface layers have no slip agent material is produced.

Embossed polymer sheets and interlayers having at least one tapered zone are provided. The roughness of the embossed portion of the sheets and interlayers may be substantially uniform. Methods and systems for producing such interlayers are also described herein and may utilize at least one pair of rollers oriented substantially parallel to one another. When used in multiple layer panels, such as safety glass laminates, the embossed tapered interlayers described herein exhibit excellent optical performance, as indicated by the low haze and high clarity of the resulting panels.
