Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a point-of-purchase (POP) spectrophotometer for open-viewing of a color sample. The POP spectrophotometer includes a housing assembly containing an illumination optical system and an imaging optical system in desired orientation. Also provided is at least one of a second illumination optical system, a sheen detection system, and a camera system. The housing assembly includes a chassis in secure arrangement with a plurality of supports that define a target plane having a target location and that space the chassis therefrom. The chassis is configured to position the illumination, imaging, sheen detection, and/or camera systems in desired orientations relative to the target location and each other. The POP spectrophotometer can include an alignment device and/or targeting optics for facilitating user-identification of the target location, and means can be provided to enhance insensitivity to ambient light and/or depth variation of the color sample.
Abstract:
A hand-held, self-contained, battery-powered test instrument for analyzing composition of a sample includes an exciter for exciting at least a portion of the sample, a compact cross-dispersed spectrometer for receiving an optical signal from the excited portion of the sample and a processor for processing spectral data about the optical signal from the spectrometer. The exciter may include a spark generator and a counter electrode, a laser or other device for generating the optical signal from the sample portion. The spectrometer has a wavelength range broad enough to enable the test instrument to detect and determine relative quantities of carbon, phosphorous, sulfur, manganese, silicon, iron and other elements necessary to identify common alloys. The spectrometer includes a structural member made of a light-weight material having a small coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). The spectrometer is dimensionally stable over a range of expected ambient temperatures, without controlling the temperature of the spectrometer.
Abstract:
A system for monitoring and controlling a batch process. The system includes a control system that is operable to control the batch process and to receive measured process variables of the batch process. An analyzer analyzes a material sample from the batch process and generates array data representative of the composition of the material sample. An analyzer controller is operable to collect the array data from the analyzer and the measured process variables from the control system. A software data server running on a computer is operable to retrieve the array data and the measured process variables from the analyzer controller. A software information management system running on the computer is operable to receive the measured process variables and the array data from the data server and to store the measured process variables and the array data in a database in an associated manner.
Abstract:
A color measurement device designed for use at various stages of an industrial process is provided. The device offers enhanced insensitivity to ambient light, measurement depth variations, and/or ambient or environmental temperature variations. The device may be embodied as an LED-based, non-contact color measurement spectrophotometer. Over- illumination in full-spectrum of the target object facilitates effective color measurements over varying depths of view. Collected light is measured at discrete wavelengths across the entire visual spectrum. The hardened, rugged design and packaging of the measurement device allows color measurement to be performed at various stages of industrial processes wherein the device can add value by enabling enhanced detection of color errors.
Abstract:
A system provides light of selectable spectral characteristic (e.g. a selectable color combination of light), for luminous applications such a signage and indicator lights (10). An optical integrating cavity (11) combines energy of different wavelengths from different sources, typically different colored LEDs. The cavity has a diffusively reflective interior surface (29) and an aperture (17) for allowing emission of combined light. Control of the intensity of emission of the sources sets the amount of each wavelength of light in the combined output and thus determines a spectral characteristic of the light output through the aperture. A deflector (25) shaped like a number, character, letter, or other symbol, may be coupled to a similarly shaped aperture. By combining several such fixtures, it is possible to spell out words and phrases, with selectable color lighting. Disclosed fixture examples use an extruded body member with appropriately located reflective surfaces to form both the cavity and deflector.
