Carbon fiber reinforced silicon nitride based nanocomposite material is produced by mixing a powder mixture of silicon nitride powders (with or without alumina powders), and fine silicon carbide powders, with a solution of a preceramic polymer containing silicon and nitrogen, to form a solution for impregnation, by passing carbon fibers through the solution to produce a mass of impregnated carbon fibers, forming the mass to a desired shape and by sintering in an inert atmosphere. Ultra-high strength and toughness are produced due to reinforcement by nanocompositization of the matrix phase, that by dispersion of fine particles and that by long carbon fibers , part of matrix phase is generated by thermal cracking of preceramic polymer.

The carrier includes an alumina component containing a first portion of alumina particles having a particle size of, or greater than, 3 μm and up to 6 μm, and a second portion of alumina particles having a particle size of, or less than, 2 μm. An improved catalyst containing the above-described carrier, as well as an improved process for the epoxidation of ethylene using the catalyst are also provided.

A paste composition for forming a back surface electrode of a solar cell 10 provided by the present invention contains, as solid matter, an aluminum powder, a glass powder, and a composite powder composed of a granular composite material of titanium oxide and an organic or inorganic compound containing silicon. When the total amount of the composite powder, the aluminum powder, and the glass powder is 100% by mass, the composite powder is contained in a ratio of 0.45% by mass or more and 1% by mass or less.
