摘要:
Provided are methods of treating a disease or condition characterized by a deficiency of or a defect in an iron transporter using a small molecule. For example, the method may increase transepithelial iron transport, or it may increase iron release. Additionally, the small molecule may be hinokitiol, or it may be selected from the group consisting of amphotericin B, calcimycin, nonactin, deferiprone, purpurogallin, and maltol. Also provided is a method of identifying a compound capable of treating a disease or condition characterized by a deficiency of or a defect in an iron transporter.

Provided are certain derivatives of amphotericin B (AmB) characterized by reduced toxicity and retained anti -fungal activity. Certain of the derivatives are C16 urea derivatives and C16 carbamate derivatives of AmB. Also provided are methods of making the AmB derivatives.

Conformationally-constrained helicases having improved activity and strength are provided. Methods of making conformationally-constrained helicases having improved activity and strength are provided. Methods of using conformationally-constrained helicases having improved activity and strength are provided. The present invention is based on the discovery of novel modified helicases that show dramatically enhanced helicase activity and increased strength as compared to unmodified helicases. As described further herein, it has been surprisingly discovered that, by controlling the conformation of certain subdomains such that the helicase remains in a closed form (e.g., by covalently crosslinking the 2B domain to the 1A domain or the 1B domain in a Rep helicase), a highly active and strong form of the helicase is achieved

A method of capturing a Circulating Tumor Cell (CTC) and Circulating Cancer Cells (CSC) from a sample includes introducing a sample into a flow based multichannel device having a cell capture surface and a flow modification surface under conditions that allow a CTC to bind to a cell rolling-inducing agent and a capturing agent disposed on the cell capture surface. The invention also provides for flow based multichannel devices to capture CTCs and CSCs from a sample.

The invention provides transient devices, including active and passive devices that physically, chemically and/or electrically transform upon application of at least one internal and/or external stimulus. Incorporation of degradable device components, degradable substrates and/or degradable encapsulating materials each having a programmable, controllable and/or selectable degradation rate provides a means of transforming the device. In some embodiments, for example, transient devices of the invention combine degradable high performance single crystalline inorganic materials with selectively removable substrates and/or encapsulants.

Disclosed herein are methods for treatment of estrogen-related medical disorders. The methods of treatment may comprise administering to a subject in need of such treatment a composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of at least one compound of formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

The invention provides polymers comprising Formula I: wherein monomer is a repeating unit comprising 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 carbon atoms and the monomers are linked together through amide or ester bonds; n is about 6 to about 1000; and Linker is an optionally substituted carbon chain that is optionally interrupted by moieties such as oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus, or silicon. Charge is a moiety having a positive or negative charge on a heteroatom, such as nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, or sulfur; where the Linker separates the monomer and the Charge by at least six linear atoms. The invention also provides methods of preparing the polymers and the copolymers and methods of using the polymers and copolymers, for example, as drug delivery systems, as membrane penetrating peptides, and as therapeutic agents.
