A method of resistive implant welding thermoplastic composites. At least two sections of a component formed with weldable thermoplastic material are provided. The two sections of the component each have a welding surface along which the component is welded together. The welding surface includes a first surface adjoining a second surface at an angle exceeding about 30 degrees or another three dimensional shape. A first wire mesh conductor material is positioned between the welding surface of the at least two sections along the first surface. A second wire mesh conductor material is positioned between the welding surface of the at least two sections along the second surface in an overlapping manner at the angled connection. An electric current is applied to the conductors causing the conductors to heat up and melt the at least two sections of the component together.

The method includes placing the muff with an overlap over the ends of the pipes, welding the muff to the ends of the pipes through placement of an electrically conducting band that is permeable to molten plastic between the pipe and the muff, connecting a power supply to the band through feed cables, and supplying an electrical current in order to heat the band and the surrounding polymer material such that they melt together around the band in order to form a weld. The temperature of the weld is calculated through adding the initial ambient temperature of the weld and the increase in temperature of the band.

The resistive implant material is heated and pressed into a targeted surface of the first plastic component to tack the resistive implant into place. The resistive implant material can be heated for tacking by passing an electric current through it before it is pressed into the first plastic component by a second member or by contacting the resistive implant material against a separately heated surface prior to pressing it into the first plastic component.

Die Erfindung stellt ein beidseitig verklebbares Flächenelement bereit, das eine elektrische Kontaktierungsschicht aufweist, über die es selbstregulierend intrinsisch erwärmbar ist und dabei gleichzeitig eine hohe Flexibilität aufweist. Die Besonderheit dieses Flächenelements besteht darin, dass das Flächenelement im Lagerungszustand lediglich auf einer Seite klebrig ausgerüstet ist und dessen Handhabung somit besonders einfach ist, beim Verkleben die Klebemasse durch Aussparungen in der Kontaktierungsschicht durch diese hindurchtritt und das Flächenelement somit beidseitig verklebbar wird. Weiterhin bietet die Erfindung ein Verfahren zur Verklebung dieses Flächenelements, das als wesentlichen Schritt das Hindurchtreten der Klebemasse durch die Aussparungen in der Kontaktierungsschicht enthält, wodurch aus einem einseitig klebrigen Flächenelement ein doppelseitig klebriges Flächenelement wird.
