De-polluting, self-cleaning coating compositions are disclosed which comprise an organic binder having dispersed therein photocatalytic titanium dioxide particles substantially in anatase form which have an average crystallite size between about 1 nm and about 150 nm and which preferably have photocatalytic activity in the presence of visible light. Advantageously, the coatings of the invention do not require pre-activation to achieve high initial photocatalytic activity against pollutants in the air, such as NOx compounds.

Disclosed is a method for coating a cement-containing molding piece. A rigid plastic coating with a thickness of at least 0.1 mm and with or without a carrier is combined with the fluid, moldable cement-containing material so as to produce the cement-containing molding piece with or without pressure until said molding piece is hard. The coating should not be sticky, however, a durable composite should be able to be achieved. The coating can be configured as a decorative layer or as an adhesive layer for bonding additional layers such as panels, tiles, and foils. Cement-containing molding pieces can be produced in a simple manner in a single operation by means of the inventive method, as opposed to methods known in prior art which require several processes.

The present invention relates to primer compositions in powder form that comprise a dispersion powder based on an acrylate polymer having a glass transition temperature in the range from −50° C. to +30° C. and cement. The compositions of the invention are notable for good water barrier effect, good dust-binding capacity, and a low tendency toward salt efflorescence. The encompositions find use in the priming of masonry, concrete, rendered surfaces, abraded render, plaster surfaces, wall blocks, wood, and ceramic tiles. They can also be used as adhesion promoters with nonabsorbent substrates such as glazed ceramic or glass tiles, metal surfaces, or surfaces of plastic.
