Thus, a fuel cartridge for a fuel cell device, comprises a reactor compartment for storing a first reactant, a water compartment for storing water. It has a mixing compartment (106)containing a water soluble second reactant, and a fluid communication means (114) between the mixing compartment (106) and the reactor compartment (102) adapted to pass second reactant dissolved in water to the reactor compartment (102),in which the dissolved second reactant can react with the first reactant to generate a gas. Suitably, the fuel cartridge comprises an interface connectable to a water control mechanism disposed outside the cartridge, the water control mechanism configured to control a flow of the water between the water compartment and the mixing compartment such that the water mixes with and dissolves the second reactant in the mixing compartment.

Purge valves that are manually turned ON but are automatically or electrically turned OFF as the fuel cell's production of electricity reaches a predetermined level, e.g., steady state or thereabout are disclosed. The purge valve may be opened at system start-up, or may be opened at system shut-down so that the purge valve is armed and the fuel cell system is purged at the next start-up. Also disclosed is an integrated fluidic interface module that contains various fluidic components including one of these purge valves. The integrated fluidic interface module can operate passively or without being actively controlled by a processor. Methods of operating a fuel cell system, wherein the fuel cell system is purged at system start-up, are also disclosed. The purging automatically stops when the anode plenum is fully purged and replaced with fuel.

[Solution] A thin plate is prepared by an ultraquenching transition control injector with a mixture of a metal powder having corrosion resistance to form a matrix and a powder having conductivity, as a raw material. When the matrix of the thin plate is crystal-structure metal, the plate can be formed at room temperature, and when the matrix is metallic glass, the plate can be formed in a supercooled liquid state. Therefore the plate can be finished into a separator with an intended shape.
