摘要: An oxidative process for preparing 4,4'-bis(2,6-dihydrocarbylphenols) is provided which comprises contacting with good agitation a disubstituted phenol such as 2,6-di-tertiarybutyl phenol with up to stoichiometric amounts of oxygen in the presence of a small catalytic quantity of a catalyst selected from the group consisting of alkali metal and alkaline earth metal hydroxides, alkali metal and alkaline earth metal salts of a weak acid, amine bases, and mixtures of the same at a temperature from about 50 DEG to 240 DEG C. until a reaction product containing a substantial amount of the corresponding biphenol is formed, said reaction product being substantially free of quinones.

摘要: PURPOSE:To provide a separation agent composed of a racemic or optically active 2,2'-dihydroxy-1,1'-biphenanthryl and having excellent clathrating and stereo-regulating capability to enable the separation of a specific compound easily from a mixture by forming a clathrate compound. CONSTITUTION:The recemic or optically active diol compound of formula is used as a separation agent to separate a specific compound from a mixture. The separation process can be carried out easily by forming a clathrate compound from the diol compound and a specific compound in a solution, separating the crystal of the clathrate compound from the mixed solution and removing the compound of formula from the clathrate. Especially, a desired compound and be separated economically from a racemic compound by using an optically active compound of formula. the racemic or optically active compound of formula can be synthesized easily by conventional method.

摘要: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for resins rationally and efficiently without load such as treatment of waste liquor, etc., by heat-treating 2,2'-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane in the presence of a catalytic amount of an aliphatic sulfonic acid. CONSTITUTION:2,2'-Bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane is heated in the presence of 0.1-100wt%, preferably 1-20wt% based on the raw material of an aliphatic sulfonic acid at 50-200 deg.C, preferably about 60-160 deg.C, to give 6,6'- dihydroxy-3,3,3',3'-tetramethyl-1,1'-spirobiindane. EFFECT:Extremely advantageous in industrial operation.

摘要: PURPOSE:After irradiation of a specific alpha-azohydroperoxide in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent with light, an oxygen gas is introduced into the reaction system to enable safe and high-yield production of a biphenyl in no need of high temperature and high pressure with no problems on energy consumption. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound is obtained by dissolving and alpha-azohydroperoxide of formula I [R1, R2 are H, 1-4C alkyl, aryl, polycyclic aromatic aryl where R1=R2=-(CH2)4-7-; R3 is aryl or polycyclic aromatic aryl, which may be substituted with halogens, respectively], formula II [R4, R5 are same as R1, R2; R6, R7 are 1-5C alkyl, COOH, COOR8 (R8 is methyl, ethyl)], formula IIIor IV in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent of formula VI [R9 is H, methyl, ethyl, methoxy, X (halogen)] or formula VII [R10, R11 are 1-4C alkyl, COOR12 (R12 is R3), CHO, CH2OH], irradiating the solution with light and/or heating it, then introducing an oxygen gas. USE:Material for high molecular chemistry.

摘要: PURPOSE:In the alkylation of phenol by reaction between a specific phenol and a saturated aliphatic alcohol, a trace amount of a platinum metal is added to the manganese oxide catalyst to keep high activity for a long period of time without reduction in catalyst activity, resulting in increased selectivity. CONSTITUTION:The alkylation of a phenol which has at least one of hydrogen atom in ortho positions to the hydroxyl group such as phenol, O-cresol is effected using a catalyst which is prepared by adding a platinum group metal or its compound to a manganese oxide as a catalyst at an atomic ratio of (0.01-100)X 10 platinum group metal/manganese in gas phase at 250-480 deg.C, preferably 300-460 deg.C. The catalyst is used ordinarily in the form of fixed bed and the feed rate of the mixture of starting materials is preferably 0.1-3hr LSV.
